Title: GA-EX58-UD3R rev1.6 sometimes hangs and shows CPUID Patch
Post by: Nikos on November 09, 2011, 10:57:11 am
Dear,

I have never had any problems with my GA-EX58-UD3R rev1.6,
but yesterday when I started my computer it showed the motherbord name + BIOS version FB
and then it froze for 30 seconds.

After the 30 seconds it showed "CPUID 000106A5 Patch ID 00000011"
and then "Memory Testing : " + amount of memory + "OK".

Normally it just shows motherbord name + BIOS version and then the memory frequency,
but now it also showed CPUID Patch and testing memory.

So I did a memory test with Memtest86+, and I ran it for an hour, and it passed.
I also opened my case and removed and put my memory cards back in,
also removed fan from CPU cooler and removed some dust.

When I started the computer, everything was fine.
It didn't hang and it also didn't showed any CPUID Patch and Testing Memory, just memory frequency.

So I thought it was solved.
But when I restarted it came back, so I updated my BIOS from FB to FI.

And now I sometimes! get a CPUID Patch and testing memory, and sometimes just memory frequency.

Does someone know what the problem can be?

Thanks in advance.

Nikos

Greetings to you, Nikos.  ;)

Have you made any changes, hardware changes?
Hard drives, SSD, memory, video card?. Firmware, corporation, model, size, single or dual channel, bios of the graphics card...
Si yes we specify the hardware.

Otherwise give us more information. Thank you for coming on the forum.

No I didn't made any changes in my system.
It was from one day to the other.

After the BIOS update, I don't get any BIOS hangs but only that CPUID Patch ID.
What can be the cause to let the BIOS make a CPUID Patch and sometimes not?

Is it possible that GRUB can do something like this, by changing MBR?

What is a CPUID Patch...? :P

And what information do you guys need?

Hi Nikos,
I note you did not make a material change or add, or remove anything.

But it may (in theory) a hardware is in bad condition, dysfunctional or otherwise altered.
While the BIOS generates a message like CPUID-Patch ID by a check.

The CPUID 106A5, it refers to the signature CPUID of processor (CPU). The number 106 is associated with a core revision of CPU.

If you are sure that your hardware device is in good condition and well connected in the slots, it is possible that changes were made to the Bios.
Among other things during the BIOS flash. Check your BIOS settings.

If you are unsure about your choice of settings in the BIOS or you want to have by default, make a clear CMOS, followed by a Load Optimized Defaults.

I look for further information.

Edit1 : Remember to remove the CF card (Compact Flash), SDCard or other similar device from all peripherals (printer, card reader, etc.)
Because the computer can try to boot from these devices. If necessary, you will have possibly the error message with the CPUID Patch-ID.

Thank you for your patience, you will have some explanation in the meantime.

Hi Nikos, ;)

Are you in a server environment or virtual machine? As ESX Server, Xen or other, whatever his name?

Hi Nikos,  ;)

I have forgot said : Remove All USB Hard Drive, USB Key, etc
EDIT01 : Hightpoint Rocketraid 620, etc.)
I suppose the OS system is not on USB extension drive...

Because the computer can try to boot from these devices.
And because this, you will receive possibly the error message.

if you do not use a USB3 peripheral
Disable USB3 in BIOS. And after remove the driver pack. Thank AA.

Hi Nikos,

Out of interest...what did you use to update the BIOS......@BIOS or QFlash? Also, with Memtest did you have 1 stick of RAM in slot 1 and let each RAM module run for 10 passes/ cycles?

Hello,

Sorry for not responding, I was away for some time.

- teknology9, I used QFlash. And with memtest I had all 3 modules in it... I ran it for 10 hours.

- Gloup_Gloup,

Thanks for your responds.

1. Im not in a server environment.

2. I didn't made any changes to the system, but I am not sure if all devices are working properly.
How can I test this?

3. I don't think this MB supports USB3.

4. Should I try it without USB keyboard and mouse? Can this really be a problem?

5. I just bought a new battery, CR2032(or something, Varta but same type as the Japanese that was in it.)
But still same problem.

Also when I start the PC it takes like 2, 3, 4 seconds before the beep and the BIOS shows up.

Do you have any advice to test my devices? Cause I can try to start the system without some devices, but the Patch doesnt show up all the time.
So it is hard to find any connections.

Hi Nikos,  ;)

Okay, I check a actual bios version on official Gigabyte website...

I view in Download - BIOS section...
FI   0.68 MB   2010/03/12
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3103#bios

It is for Enhanced memory compatibility ....

EDIT01: Important, Never installed a Beta BIOS. Because is a non-official BIOS and it used by test users.

Use a FLASHSPI.EXE to reflash BIOS ( Never use @BIOS, because is not good orIt is not the best ..)

More help about How Do I Update My BIOS?
http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2441.0.html

But Before AND after Flash a BIOS...

I do not know if you've done that ... but I invite you to do so.

I suggest you apply the following instructions (quote from Dark Mantis) ...
===================================================

Hi
...

Try clearing the CMOS before installing the GPU. follow these instructions exactly.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

And during a Flashing BIOS...

Hi
...
Try using QFlash to update the BIOS to the latest version and make sure that youi disable the "Keep DMI Data" on the QFlash homepage.

If you used QFlash to update your BIOS to the FI version that should be fine. QFlash and FLASHSPI are both safe ways of flashing.

"1 short: System boots successfully"
"1 long, 1 short: Memory or motherboard error"

I first get the normal beep and then a longer beep, or it isnt the speaker but some other hardware that does it...

Ok thanks.

What does it mean when the mother beeps, 1 long beep?
After that he just starts.

Normally anything other than the standard beep codes are usually memory related. It might be worth running Memtest to check the modules. If you want to it does take some time but at least you can be sure of the state of your RAM afterwards. This is how to go about it if you decide to:

Please follow these instructions exactly.

I would suggest that you download and run the latest version of  Memtest86+ to check your RAM first.

Memtest86+        http://www.memtest.org/

Insert one stick of memory in slot 1 and run Memtest on it for at least 10 complete loops/cycles and if there are no errors then swap it over with the next one and continue untill you have checked all  modules.

If you have any errors the module is faulty.

If you have any faulty modules you will have to return the whole kit as they are matched.

I have already run memtest86+ for 10 hours, but that was with all three sticks in it.
