I cannot find any definitive information on this and was thinking of disabling it what does it do?

Hi there,
The on-board LAN is the hardware that you would use if you want to create a Local Area Network and in a lot of cases too connect to the internet. If you use a USB modem to connect to the internet you probably don't use this but I wouldn't disable it.

You don't say what motherboard you have but don't forget that on many of them there are two LAN ports to disable.
-
My board only has one. :'( I've been robbed!!! :P

Well I quickly found out by disabling it You get no network Lan function
I did think it was for the period up to the OS operating but the OS Windows xp pro needs this on. Despitethe network driver in Windows.
So they must need the basic network on board Lan to operate.

The LAN must be found and configured in the BIOS otherwise it won't be there for Windows to utilise.
