Title: GA-Z77X-UD5H USB Ports Stopped Working
Post by: cbankston on June 10, 2013, 08:06:17 pm
Front USB ports had been working normally.  Recently devices such as flash drives, an external hard drive, and a fax modem that are plugged into any of the front USB 2 or 3 ports are not recognized by Windows (7 Pro 64 bit), though the flash drive power lights flash briefly.  My USB keyboard, plugged into a rear port, works normally.  Device Manager reports all USB devices working properly with the exception of an "Unknown Device" that Windows has disabled.

Other posts have referred to a Via controller; but Device Manager doesn't show any Via device under Universal Serial Bus controllers.

BIOS version is F14.

The motherboard is Rev. 1.0.  I found another discussion that advised unplugging the computer after a shutdown, which I tried.  When I plugged it in again and booted, the USB ports worked again.

Is the problem that allows the USB ports to stop functioning when the computer is left plugged in an issue with the F14 BIOS or a defect in one of the drivers?  I do a normal Windows shutdown every night but generally don't unplug the computer.
