Title: GA-Z68A-B3H-D3 compatible with MSI RX480?
Post by: arog87 on February 19, 2017, 06:46:09 pm
I have a computer in storage that I am thinking of using once again. It has a i2500k and a Gigabyte GA-Z68A-B3H-D3.

1) Is this motherboard compatible with a newer RX480 8GB card?
2) Will I need to upgrade my BIOS to the latest UEFI beta?

Thanks for the help!

Your SandyBridge CPU only supports PCIe 2.0...  The card will run 2.0 Spec.

The card is new enough that you shouldn't experience any compatibility issues.  If the BIOS has a GPU Gen Option (default Auto) changing to Gen2 might be required.

Be sure to completely uninstall whatever graphic drivers are currently there now.  Update your chipset INF drivers and HD3000 drivers BEFORE installing the new card.  Ensure it gets installed in a x16 slot for best performance.
