Title: GA-X58A-UD7 - Problems / Weirdness
Post by: k1llah3rtz on December 02, 2009, 03:20:05 pm
Hey,

I got my UD7 this week as well and am running it with Dominator 1866.

I'm having some problems... any one seen similar?

Seen so far:
1. USB doesn't initialise all the time at boot - Had to power off 5 times before USB worked again pre-OS
2. TMPIN03 (SYS) Temp really high - 53+ degrees
3. Not sure what temps should be seeing - but with silent-pipe NB runs at 45 degrees @ idle ( might need to spread thermal paste better.. using AS5)
4. Windows 7 hung a couple of times during boot

hi

what's bios ver ?
what is SYS temp in bios hardware monitoring?
imo i don't see any problem with NB at 45 C
tried with different memory?
does it also happen when lowered the speed of ram? (just for trying)

sys temp is 53+

my old UD5 was never this hot..

surely the Silent-Pipe should be keeping the NB cooler than this..

Just corrected model name in the subject from GA-EX58A-UD7 into GA-X58A-UD7
http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=3251

I will check if we have any newer bios

cool thanks :)

reset to optimized defaults and everything appears better..

newer bios always good..

realise that i'm one of the first to have this board in the UK.. so all good.. happy to test and report :)

Thanks for your feedback about this mb :)

Optimized defaults (or even fail-safe defaults) are the one of starting points when checking for solution of the problem, so I am glad that now it's better. Which exact bios option (that you changed before) was causing problem?

I have a new beta bios for you, it's version F3a (http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/upload/files/BIOS_X58A-UD7_F3a.zip). Please check if it solves completely issue 1 and 4.

Regarding NB temperature you have (45 C) I do agree with Beekeeper, it's perfect. Moreover you can read in the manual (page 24) about Temperature Indicator LEDs as follows :

NB TEMP
Off: Below 60 C
L1: 61~ 80 C (green)
L2: Over 80 C (red)

So it's OK even up to 80 C for NB.

Yes, it seems you are the first one or one of the first ones in UK to have it, congrats!

:).. bleeding edge baby... HAHA  8)

will test new bios tonight .. thanks for that.

my temps last night were:

CPU:43
NB:45 *Constant*
SYS:30-40 varied

The weird thing is that the SYS temp now seems much lower, so I'm thinking that the setting reset, changed some voltage setting that i hadn't spotted.

Once the new bios is on, i'll put my ram upto 1333 from 1066 and check again

Any ideas when Easytine will be updated to properly support this new board?? It currently only reports the CPU temp but not SYS or NB.

Also Everest reports it as an unknown board, I reported this yesterday to them, hopefully they'll add full support soon.

BTW:

F2 reports CPU as i920 2.88Ghz (133x21).. which is the Turbo Clock. BIOS clock set to 20x

Will check to see if this is fixed in new version

OK, waiting for results. Really curious...  ::)

Please notice that functioning of Easy Tune 6 depends on bios loaded in the MB.

right then ...

so..

DES bluescreens in W7x64 when being enabled while C3/C6/C7 State Support enabled.

So this is my understanding - can someone confirm??

TMPIN0 - NB (41)
TMPIN1 - CPU (28)
TMPIN2 - SYS (40)

I removed my CPU and Silent Pipe.. removed excess paste from the SP installation and re-applied new paste for the CPU.. also put another fan on CPU block so now push-pull

Easytune still only reporting CPU temp in Monitor.. rather annoying...

HWmonitor displaying TMPIN values, but without knowing which one is which it's all guess work

Summary for previous points:
1. USB doesn't initialise all the time at boot - Hasn't re-occured (yet)
2. TMPIN03 (SYS) Temp really high - 53+ degrees - need to check this over the weekend, will try also with increased memory clock
3. Not sure what temps should be seeing - hmmm
4. Windows 7 hung a couple of times during boot - Hasn't re-occured (yet) - probably related to the USB issues.. which were probably voltage related..

So this should now be right

TMPIN0 - 41 - Motherboard/Sys temp (PCB)
TMPIN1 - 28 - CPU
TMPIN2 - 40 - Northbridge

Did it happen also with F2 bios?
What is your version / build of DES2 ? As the latest one at our web is B9.1105.1:
http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/Support/Motherboard/Utility_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=Utility&FileID=126
...You know sometimes the utility on dvd disc can be already outdated 8)

Which version / build of ET6 do you use? The latest one at our web is B9.1120.1:

Glad to see it's better now :)

BTW After you put some burn in test for the system then probably NB temp will raise much quicker and to the higher level than SYS.

so NB will run hotter than the system??

all software versions are off the website.. so i'm guessing the latest and greatest... always download anew before install

is your cpu detected now OK?
what cpu exactly do U have?

i wouldn't bother if my NB has 45 or 40 C, why should i? i wouldn't spend a tenner for any silver arctic paste, tbh
lets compare it this way - who cares about his car engine temp if it still within the allowed limit???

Bios still reporting x21

having some issues with the front audio detection on F3a... need to check if F2 does the same

OC'd to 4Ghz over the weeknd:

@ IDLE:
TMPIN0:46
TMPIN1:37
TMPIN2: 45

@ LOAD:
TMPIN0: 48
TMPIN1: 61
TMPIN2: 52

Core0 hit 81degrees at LOAD, the other cores were all running at around 67-74.

Do you see this x21 multiplier when all bios settings are loaded as optimized ?
Try with F3c bios suggested by Beekeeper

What's CPU temp under load shown by EasyTune 6?

Hey,

61 degrees.

Another thing i've noticed is that the front panel audio detection doesn't work at all.. it doesnt detect if i plug in headphones and goes mental if i plug a mic in... perhaps a driver issue

just tried out f3c... with turbo on the cpu still reports as 133x21

just trying realtek driver package.. it's newer than that from GB... will see if it fixed my front panel socket detection issues

It's reported with 21x multiplier because you have Turbo Boost Tech enabled in BIOS

yeah i get that :)... just fairly sure that my UD5 didn't do it.. but hey.. i've got bigger issues than that.. it was more of an observation as the turbo multiplier isn't static
