Title: GA-MA770-DS3(rev. 1.0) doesnt boot
Post by: martinfe on August 18, 2010, 08:55:09 pm
Hi,

Recently I purchased a new one processor AMD Athlon II x3 445. Original processor was Athlon 64 X2 3800+.
I updated my bios to F7 with the windows application without problem. After two days Mainboard stop working. I turn the computer on and i get only a blank screen without any beep or any post. I tried removing memory, VGA, etc without success.
I have checked on my other computer with a GA-M61MP-S2 that Processors are OK. Memory Modules OK and VGA OK too.
I tried too clearing CMOS with c_Mos Jumper. No success.

Can you help me please??

Thanks

Have you checked your power supply is working? Also what make and model is it? Do you have a buzzer attached to the motherboard?

Hey don't kick yourself, you are hardly the first and I am sure there will be others, this is why I ask.

AMD Athlon II x3 445 is an unsupported processor on the GA-MA770-DS3(rev. 1.0). Please refer to the motherboard CPU Support List, and note the BIOS version required to use a particular processor.

Well spotted Tiger, I should have checked myself :-[  Anyway that makes things a whole lot clearer. Just not compatible.

Thanks for information Dark Mantis but it was working two days and then.... never boot again. I am trying allways with the old processor Athlon 64 X2 3800+.
I have tested now with buzzer and no beep even without memory.

I am sure it was a problem after bios update. First boot with the new one processor said unknown processor. I updated bios with @bios on windows and reboot saying the right one procesor 2 days working with several freezes and dead.

Any more that i can tryfor recovering the motherboard?? There is nothing to do if a bios upgrade fails??

Thanks,

Absic is absolutely right and it is a very easy trap to fall into. Luckilly on the Intel side of things it is not so easy to mix the CPUs up. The problem is your BIOS update probably took fine( although you were lucky as you used @BIOS in Windows) but the unsupported processor then naffed the board. :'(
(Note: "naffed" is a highly technical term for something screwing something else up)

Sorry, I accidentally removed my post regarding this and what DM refers to is:

The Revision 2.0 version of your motherboard will accept the Athlon ii X3 445 CPU whereas your revision number 1.0 doesn't. It is an easy mistake to make, when looking for compatible CPU's to look at the wrong revision number and is something that other users should be aware of.

The problem is, as Dark Mantis stated, that you have probably screwed up your Motherboard by trying to run an unsupported CPU.
The only suggestion that I can offer would be to try and clear CMOS and BIOS again making sure that you have removed the power lead from the mains supply. Also remove the CMOS battery and leave it out for several minutes before you clear CMOS with the jumper. Put your old CPU back in and then try to re-boot. If that fails then I'm afraid your Mobo has probably died and gone to a better place. :'(

Thanks absic115 and Dark Mantis for all.

I have tried again now with no success. I think that i have broken my motherboard with that. I suppose that i looked the rev 2 instead of rev 1 but now i cant do anything.

I will buy a new one.

Thanks again for helping me,

Best,
