Hi

Well I can't see anything obvious that would make this problem happen but for what it's worth it does seem to occur as the load on the GPU reaches 100%. The temperatures seem fine and there is no other indicators of any issues.

Then what is the reason of this error?
The VGA is wrong?

Are you running the latest ATI Drivers 11.5 released on the 9th May? If not try updating them and see if you still have same issue.

Thanks, I don't know that there is a new driver. Well, I downloaded and installed it under XP first, and in the evening make a hard game test :)

Probably also worth making sure that your BIOS is up to date as well.

I don't know if the VGA Bios up to date, but here is the BIOS information:

You now need to go to the website and see if there is a newer version of the firmware. Or of course you could just run the program and see what it finds.

On this site:
http://gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3283&dl=1#bios
there is only the F11 BIOS version (ATi Source BIOS Version: 012.015.000.000) with the of date 2010/05/13.
The current BIOS version of my VGA is VER012.020.000.010.036835. I think this is newer than the BIOS available on the site mentioned above and I really do not understand why is an older BIOS there while exist a newer?

It might be to do with the reference version and the non reference version of the card. The same as with the drivers sometimes.

O.K. Let's see:
The BIOS is up to date like enough, the driver is the latest.
During FurMark (1.9.0) and 3DMark11 tests no freezing occurs, the GPU runs at full load and the temperature is under 70°C.
Then remain the question:
What causes the problem - hardware or sofware error?

Have you checked that your RAM modules are OK by running the latest version of MemTest?

I have seen similar problems caused by faulty modules and it would be the next thing I would test.

Memtest-86 v4.0 report:

Pass complete, no errors, press Esc to exit   8)

You should be using Memtest86+ version 4.20 and you must run it properly like so:

Memtest86+        http://www.memtest.org/

Insert one stick of memory in slot 1 and run Memtest on it for at least 10 complete loops/cycles and if there are no errors then swap it over with the next one and continue untill you have checked all  modules.

If you have any errors the module is faulty.

If you have any faulty modules you will have to return the whole kit as they are matched.

Post back when you have done that with the results.

Well, memtest done - huh, not a short test: it ran from morning to evening - and both RAMs are good :)

At least now you can be fairly confident that there is no problem with your memory.

Have you stripped everything off the system that is really not essential ?

I would suggest that the next step would be a completely fresh install with no drivers or other software that is not necessary for your most basic system to run.

Well, at least I found a hardcore gamer acquaintance who tests this "wrong" VGA in his PC - it is harder then mine - this weekend.

But "I have a bad feeling about this": as I overlooked the Graphic cards forum's topics I think so that this "VPU recover..." problem is a little bit overfrequent regarding Gigabyte's VGA cards... :(

Have you tried setting the voltage by hand ?

Well, i just received the reply from Giga byte's technical support:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. About the issue you mentioned, please try the following steps:

(1) Please confirm there is no insufficient power or overheat problem with your system and VGA card.
(2) Please update your VGA card driver and the games to the latest official version.
(3) If possible, please try to test your VGA card and the games in another system, or test your motherboard with different VGA card to see if there's a hardware problem.

If the problem still occurs in another system, a further testing or examination to your VGA card might be required. We suggest you to contact your supplier (where you bought the product) to arrange further examination and find out the root cause.

Regards,
GIGABYTE

And the test in that other PC (withPSU of better name and power) was negative: the VGA did not freeze during hours.

So I think so the weakest chain in my PC the PSU is. I hope am I right...

I would have to agree that is the case from the information you have supplied. The PSU isn't a top end one and if it has multiple 12v rails then even more likely that it could be the cause.

There is only one question: what kind of PSU is suitable? The reseller offers a lot of PSU...
One of them is "Gigabyte Superb 550P" - do You think that it is a good coise?
In other words, could You tell me how many is the peak electric current that need an Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 5770 (GV-R577UD-1GD) VGA?

I would recommend any PSU from a respectable source like Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax, Silverstone etc but make sure that it is at least 550W and preferably has a single 12v rail.
