Title: M6900 mouse won't work after firmware update
Post by: biuro74 on December 24, 2011, 10:20:36 pm
Hi,

I've just bought M6900 - it worked fine for couple of minutes. But I've seen some "drivers" on GB support page - it was firmware executable file and some utility. So I've downloaded them, and executed firmware file as first. After ~10 secs I received a messgae that update was succesfull (!). Since then mouse doesn't want to work - pointer won't move and DPI change LED is not lit. Bottom red optical light is fine. Unplugging = "beep" under Windows, plugging again = "beep" again. So this part looks good, but unfortunately it still doesn't work. USB port change won't work either (doesn't matter if it is directly from USB hub, or not).

Can you tell me, please, what was that ? Hmm.. DOes it mean mouse is broken ??

Thank you,
Martin

P.S.
Config: Windows 7 HP x64, previous mouse - M$ Basic Optical Mouse 2.0 + IntelliPoint software removed. Firmware version: v16.

Happy Christmas.

I think this is a good example of "If it aint broke don't fix it!"

Firstly I would suggest making sure that all your Windows drivers are updated along with any USB drivers that are available. After that try doing an extended clear of the CMOS before rebooting and keeping your fingers crossed! Please folllow the instructions exactly.

Remove the power cable from the mains supply and then press the power switch on the case for a few seconds just to drain any residual energy in the PSU capacitors.

Once done remove the motherboard battery for at least one hour before replacing it.

Next plug back into the mains supply and boot.

You will now need to enter the BIOS by pressing DEL and load Optimised BIOS Defaults.

Make any other changes to the BIOS settings to suit your self like disabling the floppy drive, disabling the full screen logo and making the HDD the primary boot device and then press F10 to save and exit.

Thank you for reply,

However I don't think so your advice would help (it's just an USB mouse, there's no point to unplug mains cables etc as unplugging a mouse does the same; BIOS settings are fine as I do hardware changes often and I care about optimized settings, so I've got USB legacy support on etc) as mouse won't work on another PC with different OS neither, and other mice *do work* on both. Is there anything more I can do myself - except contacting Service guys which I did yesterday - like trying to another upgrade (v15, v14 - I can't find it) before I give mouse back ? What are chances the mouse is broken (or blocked somehow) the way I can repair it myself - how do you estimate: 10%-90% (almost impossible to repair), or 50%-50% (fifty-fifty) ?

You don't seem inclined to take my advice so I would suggest that you RMA the rodent to the retailer that you purchased it from.  :-\

Hi,

Sorry mate, it's not like "no because no", but because I've done it already. Some time ago. Anyways, I don't think it would help as it's not as critical part change as CPU or memory to get BIOS and PSU involved. It's just stupid mouse :)
