am thinking about buying the gtx 670 windforce card but i heard that there's a problem running pcie 3 on the z77 chipset.. is that true ? are all cards affected ? and is it easy to fix and flash the bios ? guuaranteed ?
thanks

dont risk it. dont buy from gigabyte. they are trying to just sweep this big issue under the rug and havent said anything about it

what you on about??

The problem is not Gigabyte. It's actually Intel not getting their X79 and Z77 chipset certified for PCIe 3.0
Nvidia is not allowing PCIe 3.0 on x79 chipsets. Does Not matter what brand the board is.
ATI cards work fine in PCIe 3.0 on Gigabyte x79 etc Boards. ATI is not concerned they are not certified for PCIe 3.0
BUT, People have done benchmarks with PCIe 2.0 and PCIe 3.0 and it made ZERO difference to performance anyway.
Also, Their is a Registry hack to turn PCIe 3.0 on for Nvidia cards. Just search the net. Its very easy.
The problem is the X79 Motherboards work at PCIe 3.0 but they are not certified. So Nvidia wont turn it on.

Even though Game benchmarks show PCIe 2.0 and PCIe 3.0 makes no difference.
You don't need to do the registry hack to enable PCIe 3.0 on X79 motherboards. Nvidia has an Application to enable it.
I tested it and now both my GTX 680's are running in PCIe 3.0 on my Gigabyte X79-UD7
I ran the Hitman Absolution benchmark and as expected PCIe 3.0 made zero difference for FPS.

the NVidia file is the same registry file as the one floating around

Hi guys,
I was wondering if you could help me, I have a windforce 670 I got it when it was on offer (im in the UK). I have a asrock z77 extreme 4m, and I am frequently experiencing the crashing issues that have been reported on these forums.
Games such as borderlands 2 crashed quite a lot, but I changed a few in game settings and managed to get it a little more stable, Hitman also crashed a fair bit, but apparently this was due to the game itself, recently I became concerned when youtube videos began to freeze! but continued after a min or 2, and also just today I purchased the game FTL of the steam sale and my system crashed part way through the first 10 min tutorial! now it is not by any means at all a graphics intensive game. Oh this was the case with the old drivers, but I recently updated to the new ones as the nvidia console crashed alot, if anything the freezing seems more apparent, the card has not been overclocked by me, all settings are at default, and bios updated to latest no prob at all.
Prior to having purchased my card (I checked some sites out, and the gigabyte 670 won an award and was generally top in reviews), I ran my system with just onboard graphics and it worked for long periods no problem at all (even playing games like walking dead), so my thinking it is definitely a problem with the card. Just not sure what to do, I could return the card it is still under warranty, but I would have to ship it to germany at my own cost (this is where the retailer is based), and in the event they cant find a fault (as it is intermittent) there may be a chance that they cant, I may be stuck with the faulty card. On the otherhand if they do find the fault, Im pretty sure they would offer a refund instead of replacing the card because 1) Im not sure they have the card in stock anymore 2) the prices of the 670s have drastically increased Im looking now and seeing reference cards £60-£80 more than what I paid at the time.
I know it has been suggested to try at PCEe 2.0, but here is the interesting part I have a intel 2500k, so it shouldnt be running higher than 2.0 anyway right?
I would appreciate any advice to what I should do, is there anyway I can gather evidence of the graphics card causing the system crashes?
Thanks

I found that if you increase the voltage about 10% it will settle down
that's what I did for mine when I was getting black screens and freezing in fc3 and mafia2 constantly
I run mine a 1.175 in games only and 1.0 at idle
