Title: 1600 mem label, should be removed from GA-Z77-D3H
Post by: xxvaderxx on November 20, 2012, 01:41:44 am
Have tested all auto, all manual, played with the voltage, bottom line, same 4 sticks will run just fine at 1333, but will constantly crash at 1600(manufacturers stock values). Now i have to try and convince my retailer to hopefully get a reimbursement and move to another brand. The ironic thing is that i picked up GA for reliability and longer lasting boards, so much for that.

Ivy 3770k
GA-Z77-D3H

what's your bios version?
you should update your bios.

tweaktwon forum has the latest bios.
have you enable XMP to run 1600?
or add some DDR voltage?

Bios is F18 so its the latest, as i said before, auto configuration was enabled and disabled and manually imputed, voltage for ivy and z77 as well as manufacturers specs on mems is 1.5, if GA can not work with the standards label should be removed.

Hi,

You haven't said exactly which memory modules that you have used in the motherboard or if they are listed by the manufacturer as compatible or even if you purchased them as a matching kit rather than separate sticks.

I haven't tried on your particular motherboard but I have used several Z77 chipset boards from Gigabyte with 1600 memory filling the slots without problem. You do realise that if you fill all the memory slots that you have to increase the voltage a touch as the memory controller will need extra power for the added load. Most motherboards are actually configured with two modules in mind as optimal. Sometimes you can get away with not upping it but it is something that you should be prepared to do.

Hi,

Excuse me, the sticks are F3-12800CL9Q-16GBZL which are on Gigabyte´s approved list. The manufacturer´s specs for the sticks and intels owns specs is 1.5 if Gigabyte cant work with that, then it can clearly not support the product like it claims. That is what the OC clarification is for on other boards either that or clarify it can not handle 4 sticks, what you are essentially confirming is that Gigabyte can not support what it claims it can.

In fact, this is direct from intels forum:
Yes is could affect your system, since this new technology of processors has the Memory Controller Hub (MCH) inside of them, so now the processor is the component that controls the memory. Specifically for your processor i7-3770K the MCH on it, was designed to support  DDR3-1333/1600MHz memory at 1.5V. This information is on the following link; please check the paragraph that says memory specifications:
[..]
Our recommendation is that you please try to change your memory, since based on the voltage that it uses to work, it is not compatible with the processor, and based on the previous scenarios I described this could be dangerous for your processor.
From:
http://communities.intel.com/thread/30798

So i have a CPU which works at 1.5, memories tested at 1.5, and a board which claims can handle the kit, which obviously can not unless i alter the CPU and Memories manufacturers specs.

well, according to you statement by Intel the memory controller is on the cpu, not the motherboard, so it may be the CPU is faulty?

Try one stick at a time in the first slot.  If all 4 pass memtest, then try each stick in the next slot, If that passes try a pair in the first channel, if passed, try second channel.  then 3 stick alternating channels.

If you have different memory then try those.

did you try raising the voltages?

Luck

Having very similar issues here - http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,11787.0.html

Did you reach a resolution?

Set XMP manually... maybe some problem.. XMP must be readable from XMP. But there is no guarantee for working. BTW you can use 1.65V with Ivy Bridge with OC.
