I noticed this thread for the 7970 Windforce 3X standard 7970 (1000MHz).  There is a new BIOS released that fixes the fan not going below 50% fan speed.

I am having the exact same issue with my GHz edition 7970 Windforce 3X (1100MHz).  Unfortunately their is no new BIOS for this version.

Can Gigabyte please create a new BIO for this edition please.  It is bad enough that it is voltage locked but to have it sound like a hoover at idle speeds is a bit much for me to bear.

I submitted a support ticket for this issue on the 25th Nov.  I have as yet had no reply, the ticket status simply states "processing".  I find 4 working days to reply to support ticket unacceptable and may just DSR the faulty card.  If I leave it any longer my DSR 7 day period expires tomorrow and with no response from Gigabyte I am afraid I could be left with this card unfixed.

I consider a card that has a 50% fan speed at idle faulty and unacceptable.
