Title: GA-MA790FXT-UD5P HDD recognition problem
Post by: castman on December 23, 2009, 09:44:10 pm
I just installed 790FXT-UD5P with AMD Phenom II 965. I have successfully installed Windows 7 Ultimate on the Samsung 500GB 5400 spin speed drive which connects to the GSATA2 connector. I later decided to install a second drive (also in a GSATA2 slot) which is a Seagate 1TB 7200 spin speed, however, when I booted and entered the BIOS the original Samsung drive is not shown at all instead the Seagate is (along with the CD/DVD drive - also SATA and also in the GSATA2 slot).

One thing I note. The Samsung HDD has jumpers the Seagate does not. The Samsung instructions do not mention using the jumpers on a SATA install. Should they be set to Master?

Could this be a GSATA2 issue? What actually is the difference? The mobo instructions do not define the pro's and con's of the two SATA controllers

Well, after a good deal of head scratching I found a solution (although not a reason for the problem)

I simply took the SATA cables from the HDD's and CD/DVD-ROM drirve and connected them to the standard SATA connectors rather than the GSATA connectors - all now works perfectly
