Title: GA-73PVM-S2H - HDDs not recogised in AHCI mode
Post by: pezzatronic on January 10, 2010, 04:19:48 pm
Hi there,

I am building a new crate with the GA-73PVM-S2H. In IDE mode, the mobo sees the SATA HDDs and prompts to switch to AHCI mode. However, in AHCI mode, the drives are not recognised by the bios. What am I doing wrong?  I am have tried F7, F8 and F9 bios with no joy, the mobo will never see the SATA drives in AHCI mode.

Thanks.

Hi,
sata drives require drivers to be installed when installing o/s,
there is a work around with a registry fix available,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976
or here

Cheers

Thanks for that, however it is the BIOS that does not recognise the HDDs in AHCI, so an OS cannot even be installed. They are seen properly only in IDE emulation mode.

I have same board and have no problems with AHCI. I always install windows in IDE mode then switch to AHCI.

With my board, when the ACHI is enabled the SATA devices are not seen in the "Standard CMOS features" screen of the BIOS. However I can still change boot priorties and that kinda thing. So looks like its a normal thing. You should still be able to load you OS etc :)
