I've ordered myself this kit:
GIGABYTE Z77X-UP7
Samsung 840 PRO Series (512GB)
2x Seagate Constellation ES (1TB)
The mobo has these controllers:
Intel Z77
Marvell 88SE9172
I want the SSD on its own and the spinners as a RAID 1 volume. What would be the best assignment of controllers?

The Marvell 88SE9172 is slightly faster than the Z77 SATA2 ports, so put the SSD on the one of the Z77's SATA3 ports and the Constellations on a 88SE9172.
Z77 controller benchmarks (SATA3 & SATA2): http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/Z77X-UP7/11.html
88SE9172 controller benchmarks (SATA3): http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/motherboards/2012/05/09/gigabyte-ga-z77x-ud5h-review/6
Overall the 88SE9172 is around ~100MB/s faster than the Z77's SATA2 ports.
