The motherboard has 8 slots but I can only use 4.
If I install 8, BIOS detects them as 1333mhz with 9 9 9 24 timing. If I attempt to change these settings it fails to boot. If I leave them it freezes my system whenever I try and play a game. If I install 4, I CAN change the settings and timing to 2133mhz and its proper 9 11 10 30 timing and everything is fine.
I referred to the RAM compatibility list for the motherboard and that's where I discovered it can only accept RAM in slots 1 2 3 & 4 for this memory

What settings are you changing? I'm running 32gbs in my x79-UP4 at 2133 and not having any problems.
But the only thing I change is the speed fromm 1333 to 2133. I don't change anything else.
But I'm running G-skill for the memory. Plus I don't care what the other settings are set at. As long as it is running at 2133.
-
I just went and check what the memory is set at. I run no profile the memory is running at 2133 and the other settings are at 11 - 11 - 11 - 28.
The G-Skill is 2133 at 11 - 11 - 11 - 30. Like I said the only thing I set is the speed from 1333 to 2133 and that is it.
-
I only attempted to change speed from 1333 to 2133 and rams timing.
Like I said, if I leave 8 in, games don't work and if I change speed and timing it fails to boot.
If I install 4, it still auto detects it as 1333 and 9 9 9 30, not 2133 and 9 11 10 30 AND still crashes playing games but it will let me change timing and speed and then it works fine.

Two things you can try and that is update the bios or try to bump up the volts on the ram.
It will set it to 1.5v most of the times. Your memory it is set to run at 1.65v. Just set it at 1.60v and see what happens
-
Ram IS 1.5v and I have F4w which is very latest

I was going by what you had up there and not a #. Have you tried to adding one stick at time to see if you have a bad slot.
With the other 4 sticks of memory. Or have you tried to swap memory around to see if you have a bad stick out memory.
I had a Gigbyte board one time that had six slots on and I could only use 5 slots.
The last slot give me bad readings on the memory speed. Gigabyte did fix it for me too.
-
On memory compatibility chart, I can only use this ram in slots 1, 2, 3 & 4.
That's what I want rectified
-
You might have to email or call Gigabyte because I just played around with mine. But you can check this thread out at tweaktown.

In the BIOS under the RAM settings, set the "Performance Enhance" setting to Normal. I think default is Turbo. I was getting BSODs with it set at Turbo and had to set it to Normal to get everything stable.
-
As stated set performance enhance to normal. Also set xmp to profile 1 and ram multiplier to 21.33 i had similar issues with my corsair ram @2133. Even though my dominator ram is rated at 1.5v i had to increase vram to 1.6v to get it to be stable and reliable maybe increase your ram voltage to 1.6v should help.

I finally got answer from Gigabyte.
"Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. Since memory speed is supported depends on the CPU being used. Please refer to your CPU's spec HERE. With this CPU, it supports memory type DDR3-1066/1333/1600 therefore user cannot see higher speed option in BIOS. The problem you mentioned, It might be the system/hardwares cannot accept your overclock settings, and we will not guarantee any result caused by system overclocking.
Regards,
GIGABYTE"
I believe they are trying to say that they have no idea.
-
That if funny that I'm running the same CPU you are and I know it isn't the same board. But mine is running at 2133.
Plus the two of you are running Corsair memory and I'm running G-Skill. So if the CPU can only support up to 1600.
Then why do Gigabytes make boards that say it will support memory 2133 without any overclock. Then tell somebody that.
-
Never have got a straight answer from gigabyte i ended up on the corsair forum to get the right answer in my case. Since upping the vram to 1.6v and having xmp enabled i havent had any bsod etc caused by the ram. Though dominator ram in my case is rated at 1.5v you can apparently quite safely run a vram upto 1.9v without damaging the ram only thing to really be wary of is to be careful with the memory controller voltage. Officially 3930k only supports 1600mhz ram but a few people have managed 2400mhz seems to come down to silicone lottery to some extent. Also keep in mind its harder to overclock both cpu and ram together it is a bit of a balancing act cpu at 4.6ghz and ram at 2133mhz seems to be the best compromise i can achieve with the components i have.

Hi all
i bought one x79s-up5
my cpu is E5-2660 V2
and Ram is HP8GB 2RX4 PC3-10600R-9KIT
after i power my system after 2 (or 3) seconds will off and again power and continue this work
any boday help me
my ram is correct?
-
@X79s
Yes your CPU supports ECC Registered memory, but the board only supports unbuffered ECC memory.
That could be the problem. Do have other memory you can try.
-
yes i have this ram
4 gig ddr3 king stone dimmes
but this ram has same problem hp
you thing this ram is good?
HP 2GB (1x2GB) Dual Rank PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333) ECC Unbuffered CAS-9 500209-161
i must looking for unbuffred with ecc?
thnaks
-
i saw on the giga website
there is a new beta bios for e5-2680 v2
my cpu is 2660 v2
i thing i must update to date bios to f5b
-
Support for non-ECC memory modules. It is unbuffered not Registered.
What I meant to say is you have to use Non-ECC unbuffered memory sorry.
Here is a link to the board. http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4049&dl=1#dl
Just click on the CPU/Memory - Support & Download tab. Then click on the Memory support list.
Plus this is the kind of memory you need. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231180
One other thing is that if you are going get memory get 4 sticks too.
That way you will be running in Quad Channel. If you only use only 2 sticks you will be in Dual channel.
That CPU 2660 v2 is not supported on that board too. I don't know where you were looking. Can you give us the link to update.

Why would Gigabyte do something like that. As the saying goes you are in a rock or hard place.
Your CPU isn't in the list. Now looking at the spec from that site it could be the CPU that is the problem.
You might need to do that update to get it to work. Can you bring back to where you got it and see if they can update it for you.
