Title: Internal SATA (on chip) to external eSATA.
Post by: worf105 on June 27, 2013, 05:42:05 pm
Hi again,

What am I doing wrong???

I have bought 2 Int SATA to Ext eSATA plates ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0012O5KQ2/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0012O5KQ2/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) ) for some eSATA docking stations ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004FCN22C/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004FCN22C/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) ).

My drive configuration is as follows:

All On-chip set as AHCI
All On-board set as IDE

On-chip SATA (0) = SSD
On-chip SATA (1) = SATA HDD
On-chip SATA (2) = SATA HDD
On-chip SATA (3) = Empty
On-chip SATA (4) = eSATA Plate
On-chip SATA (5) = eSATA Plate
On-board SATA (0) = SATA DVD RW
On-board SATA (0) = Empty

When I plug any of my spare SATA II HDD (2.5" or 3.5") they are not seen by windows.

Any advice is welcomed.

Cheers

The BIOS should have a setting to use eSATA in there.
Set AHCI and then the ports you need to the eSATA modus.

Thanks Vezina,

I can't find anything in the BIOS to that effect.  Can you point me in the right direction.

It s something called  "as ESP" , i have to look in my BIOS to see exactly. :)
All boards since AMD 7xx series have this setting added in BIOS to allow eSATA.
Look careful in the BIOS.

Edit:
Integrated Peripherals -> On Chip SATA port as ESP -> Enter

If it doesn t show up press Ctrl+F1 when you are in the main BIOS page.Look in more sections for it.

Hi Vezina,

I don't have that function in my bios, even after Ctrl F1.

Never tried hot swapping on the AMD platform but have you tried using this software: http://mt-naka.com/hotswap/index_enu.htm ?

Hi absic and thanks for your reply and will have a look at trying that software.

Will this work even if Windows can not see the drives connected to the eSATA back plate?

I found this software when I was having issues on the Intel platform and it worked fine (in fact I'm still using it)  in just the AHCI Mode without the need to change anything else in BIOS so, hopefully it will work for you on the AMD platform.

As they say: "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" If ti works OK great but if it doesn't then we will know it is more than likely a BIOS issue rather than hardware or software.

Damn!

OK I read in your other post that upgrading the BIOS causes grief with your O/C. That said, I would try updating the BIOS to see if it resolves the eSATA issue then tackle the O/C issue if it does. If it still doesn't result in the eSATA drives being detected then you can always flash back to your current BIOS.

Hi absic

I have just flashed bios to F7 and I now see the ESP function in my settings.  Set ESP for SATA 4 and SATA 5.  Tested my eSATA docks and all works as it should, Thanks  :)

Unable to POST with my OC settings I've had too revert to defaults and autos  >:(  :( :( ??? ??? ??? ???

Moving over to the Overclocking section now (http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,12724.0.html (http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,12724.0.html))

Pleased that the eSATA issue has been resolved with BIOS update.

Will meet you in your other thread here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,12724.0.html about O/C problem.

Have fun with the new feature.
In my old 770-UD3 was added also along some strange BIOS revisions.
You just needed to choose what you want feature wise.
Better overclocking older BIOS ,eSATA or more CPU support newer ones :)
