Have tried tofix but it just will not install an audio device.
Any Ideas?
It was a normal close down Normal function,
I have run chkdsk plus safe mode and install driver but nothing?

Have you check the bios to see if something did change.

There are no settings in Bios that can change this I have not changed the Bios for last year so cannot see what would do this .
I have looked as part of the process of trying to undestand what has happened but still cannot see any changes.
The head phone output is also dead and its all from the same connected Codec Block off the Intel Ich10r chip.

The only reason I ask about the bios, is the on board sound (Azalia Code) enabled or disabled or in auto. If it is in auto try and change it enabled. If that doesn't work than it sounds like the on board sound chip has gone bad.

Found the only cure was to delete everything to do with sound system until Pc starts and shows it has found new hardware and then install as if new and now sound has returned.
This is the second time I have had this.

Make sure that windows isn't installing a update for the sound card. You don't want windows do updates for your hardware.
