Indeed... i think you should set all the mit parameters through your mobo: 16 or more x 200 at at least 1,35v !!

If you turn off all power saving features and turbo boost it will run 2.8 all the time in advanced got to auto and change to manual and then set it at 16x on the cpu that will put you at 3.2

really do appreciate the reply...im now stable at 3.2

i did manage to unlock a 4th core by changing a mit  setting to Hybrid..i logged back into windows and cpu-z reported a 4th core...but after a min or 2 it blue screened with a clock error

would this mean id be unable to perm open the 4th core...or would there be other settings id need to change to keep it stable?.

thanks again for your reply....very very helpful

Cheers

Take off the overclock and try running with the 4th core. The reason the 4th core is inactive is because it was considered sub par so sold as a 3 core with 4th disabled. It might be stable at 2.8 but not stable with over clock.

Good reply from autotech ! he's right i had a x3 720 black 3 years ago with a 790gp-ud4h it ran fine at 3,5ghz @ 1,375v but when unlocking the 4th core i was only able to run it at its stock speed @ 1,35v and raising the vcore didn't change anything at all...  :-\
