I've paired a EX58-extreme with an Antec Neo HE550, 920 processor and three sticks of DDR3 2gb ram and an EVGA 9800 GT video card. I get a very loud whining sound when I power up - I assume the sound is coming from my power supply though it's really hard to tell. If I remove the video card and power-up it is silent and runs through a bunch of POST codes, ending in FF, which I think is normal behavior (no hd attached yet).
So I assumed the video was bad and replaced it with another, with the same whining sound again. Would the next guess be that my power supply is underpowered or bad? Any comments would be appreciated!

Hi
if the sound is loud then it probably comes from internal speaker connected to SPEAK+ and SPEAK- pins of F_PANEL header of your motherboard. Please check this first, as we need to know where does the sound comes from.
The meaning of continuous sound coming from this speaker is as follows:
long beeps: Graphics card not inserted properly
short beeps: Power error
Make sure your memory sticks are placed into DDR3_1, DDR3_3, DDR3_5 slots.
550 power supply maybe not enough, please try with higher wattage one.
have Merry Xmas!

Thanks for the reply. It turned out that the 550 watt power supply was insufficient, and complaining about the overload by whining loudly. I upgraded to a Cooler Master 850 watt supply and now it works handily. How nice to have a modern computer for a change!
Happy New Year!
