Title: GA-990XA-UD3 Front panel USB3 card reader not reading SD card
Post by: Ulgo on January 13, 2014, 10:10:43 pm
Have had this board for a while and recently got USB3 external HDD. I got fed up plugging it into the back ports so bought a front panel card reader with USB3 port and mem card slots - IcyBox IB865

This has a single blue USB 3 plug to connect to m/board and can only be connected to the correct socket the correct way around

The usb socket seems to be working ok but neither the power nor the activity lights come on and the card slots do not register when a card is inserted into the SD or micro SD slots.

I have updated to the latest BIOS and updated the drivers to the latest on the Gigabyte site ( replacing the microsoft driver). Any help would be greatly appreciated

I have Windows 8.1 installed

Thanks  :)

That seems to be a fairly common problem with that product. I would say you have about a 60% chance of getting the reader to work other than the USB part.

If it reads usb then it rules out a faulty motherboard. If under the return period return and get one that works. Not sure about UK laws but here we have 30 days.
