What with the latest windows operating system that's soon to be released into the public domain, I'm just thinking to myself, that although I have successfully managed to upgrade my system successfully from windows 8 to the new windows 8.1, I'm just a little concerned whether my processor will be able to cope with this new system....
At the moment, the processor I've installed was bought from www.ebuyer.com, on 29/01/2013, so windows 8 had already been released by this time...
Windows 7 was released on: Thursday 22nd October 2009
Windows 8 was released on: Thursday 25th October 2012
And there is a patch file you can download now, if you already have windows 8 installed, that will upgrade your system "free of charge", now, before windows 8.1 is officially released with a price tag slapped on it, so utilise this opportunity while it's happening.
And the processor I've installed is: FM2 SOCKET AMD ATHLON A85X, on the motherboard: GA-F2A85XM-D3H (Rev. 1.1)
God knows what might happen when Windows 9 is released in 2015...
I suppose I'll have to upgrade again later in time to a better processor when it's needed.
Any advice would be gratefully received, with thanks....

While most processors that work with Windows 8 will work with Windows 8.1 it is good to run the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant to be sure.

Did you check the Windows Store home page for the Windows 8.1 free update? It should be there for most retail users that have systems that are up to date.
Why can't I find the update in the Store?

I have a 2 year old Dell laptop that I installed Windows 8 Pro on it. It is a volume license version so I could not update it the normal way. I downloaded the ISO file for Windows 8.1 Pro from the Microsoft Volume License Center and used it to Upgrade my computer from Windows 8 to 8.1. It was a free download for me so I did not mind doing it that way.

Firstly, thank you for your reply to my question about whether my PC's processor will handle the latest operating systems being released from Microsoft...of is a concern to me...as sooner or later, I will need to update it....obviously, the longer I wait the better, this is still an almost new processor, so I do expect it to last for quite some time to come.
It's also handy to other users on her what you've written because they can pre-check these links first before they make that decision to upgrade...A very handy idea I might say...and whilst I'm on this topic, I have just come across another website which may come in handy to other users for their future references to...

This concludes today's write up on processors and motherboards that need to be checked for compatability issues with the latest Microsoft operating systems releases...
Thanks to everyone who replies to this....
