I plan on building my new system with this motherboard and with the RAM I have picked out (Patriot Viper 3 16GB 2x4 1866MHz) I have heard some people say that it causes major problems when trying to run the RAM at its rated speed. I would just like to know ahead of time what procedure I would need to take to get the RAM to run at 1866MHz. The processor I will be installing is an AMD FX-8350, which I don't plan on overclocking just yet.

I don't know what a "Patriot Viper 3 16GB 2x4 1866MHz" is. 2x4 equals 8 where I went to school. An AMD FX CPU can run 1866MHz with 1 DIMM per Channel or 1600MHz with two DIMMs per channel. Higher frequencies require overclocking.
Mixing multiple kits or mixing multiple single DIMMs are not guaranteed to work.
The Revision 3 and 4 models of the motherboard allow the use of XMP profiles to automatically encode higher-performance memory timings. XMP is normally [Disabled] by default in the BIOS.
Earlier revisions 1.0 and 1 of the motherboard don't use XMP profiles so you need to manually set the Memory Clock, Dram Timings and DRAM voltage.

Yes, I did mean to say "Patriot Viper 3 16GB 2x8* 1866MHz memory" but there's no need to be rude about it. I also never once stated that I was mixing and matching DIMMs and I understand the results of that, which you did not need to state at all. From what I have read, people have had trouble getting their kits to run at the speed they want (1866MHz) without problems. I just wanted to know what the process was to getting the kit to run at that speed I needed before I built the system.

If the 1866MHz memory is running 1.5volts that's the max speed for FX-8350. Just make sure to install the processor first before the 1866 memory.

When you install memory on a AMD board you have to set both the speed and timings. To what the memory spec are at.
You can do it manually or just set it to a Profile. I run memory that the speed is 1600 & timings are 7-7-7-18.
I can set it to that manually or when I use a Profile it set it to 1600 & 7-7-7-20. Memory support DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866/1600/1333/1066
Anything 1866 & under you should be able to run without OC your CPU. You should be able use the 1866 and set it up.

The RAM should work as per specifications.
Make sure the Command Rate is a 2T in BIOS and the voltage is the proper one.
1866 Mhz is supported with 2 sticks for the CPU.
Patriot is the RAM AMD uses on their OEM RAM sticks so it should work.

If the board is rev 4 just set the ram XMP profile to 1866 and it will boot right away
