I have installed a Samsung 840 pro 128GB ssd, everything went well, it cloned ok and it runs ok. However when I check the drive using Samsung Magician, it states that AHCi is deactivated & Unable to detect SATA interface details.
I have carried out the registry change without any problem but, I can only find reference to SATA or IDE in the BIOS. Does than mean I cannot set AHCI on my gigabyte GA-P41T-D3

Yep that is what it means. If that motherboard had a raid option you could run it in raid mode and enable AHCI that way but as far as I can tell that motherboard doesn't support raid at all.

Thanks for your answer Autotech. A new MoBo beckons then :) :)

I have a friend that runs it in IDE mode and it is still a lot faster than a platter drive his one complaint is that garbage collection and trim wont work unless in AHCI mode. So over the last year even though he hasn't installed a lot he has 20 gigs less than he should.
I told him if he doesn't want to upgrade we need to wipe it and start over so he gets his space back but he is going to wait till it gets worse.
