Hi. Using the Optimised Defaults on the Gigabyte Z97-HD3 board results in a vCore of 1.392v for the 4790K. Is this normal ??
I believe I was running far too hot (80C +) on stress tests. (Using a Corsair H60 cooler)
I manually dropped the vCore down to 1.25v after fiddling with the offset values and it runs everything fine at 50-60C max now.
Like I said, optimised defaults set a 1.392v vCore. Am I wrong in thinking that is way too high for stock speeds?
Just wondering if I should advise gigabyte.

Further to my post above, the advanced voltage area of my bios strangely reports a 1.100v vCore to which I add 0.054v offset to get a reported 1.248v on the bios main status screen ??. Perhaps I am fighting against the chip's dynamic voltage controller.
Ultimately though, this setting has pegged the maximum voltage to 1.248v. Gigabyte's System Info Viewer reports a vCore of 1.2 which drops to 1.88v at maximum 8 thread load and 4200mHz speed.
Confusing stuff. But this setting knocks about 20C off the temps, so I am happy.

For problem with high default vCore with stock 4790K......reflash board with latest BIOS...for your board F5.

or on TT forum you have already F6:

Thanks for the info.
I need to be sure that it is a "known issue" that has been fixed for my BIOS before I risk flashing it.
As it is, I am happier with the temperatures now. I still can't find any definitive info on what should be the stock voltage at 4400mHz. I'm just assuming 1.25v.

Took the plunge and updated the BIOS to F5.
BIOS still thinks it's a 4770K, but now sets the vClock to 1.88v !! That's a massive drop from 1.392v in the previous BIOS (F4)
Prime95 temps around 55C now.

You mean 1.188V...not 1.88V?
