Hello,
I bought a new gigabyte motherboard GA-Z77M-D3H a few months ago. I have problems with both 3.0 USB ports. When I'll try to connect my external 2 TB HDD it won't connect to PC (nor any sound or error message won't pop up). In 2.0 USB port it's work fine but why should I connect HDD which support 3.0 USB to 2.0?
Interesting fact: If I'll connect 3.0 flash drive into same port it work normal. Why only my 3.0 external HDD have this problem? I have latest drivers, newest windows updates and also I've tried to reinstall whole OS 2 times. Could you help me with this issue?
Windows Ultimate 64 bit; external HDD Western Digital My Book 2000 GB

First if other usb 3 drives work normal in the usb3 slots then I would more or less blame the drive that wont work in them. Also go to the manufacture page for your 2T hard drive maybe their is a known problem with then and it needs a firmware update or someone in there forums has ran into this problem and solved it.

Hello autotech and thanks for you reply. I thought that it could be HDD problem but after a few tests on another PCs it seems that he's ok. So problem must be in my motherboard/drivers. But like I said I already reinstall whole OS and it didn't worked.
I also spent hours with googling this problem and a there are a few people with same problem. Nobody helped them :(

Well there used to be a lot of usb 3.0 problems but on both my boards that build on the Z97 chipset I installed usb 3.0 drivers and have not had a problem.
Seagate expansion 1T
Seagate Wireless Plus 1T
Seagate back up plus 500 gig
All are USB 3.0 and work great with both boards. Not sure what brand you have if it is Seagate or not. I had a western Digital 1T USB 3.0 also but gave it to my son and I didn't have a problem with it on my 890 FX board.

Today I've bought second external HDD. Problem is again SAME. USB 3.0 is NOT working in my rear MB panel. So I decided to buy usb bracket which I connected directly to MB. Both HDDs are working with these USB 3.0 connected directly to MB but it seems like it's not 3.0 ... It's blue male connector with 19 pins with text USB 3.0 but my transition speed is below 70 MB/s (like 2.0). Even windows says that I should connect these devices to highspeed 3.0. BUT IT IS CONNECTED TO 3.0.
I have no damn idea what the heck is wrong with this motherboard ... I also updated bios to F15a and usb 3.0 drivers ... didn't work.
