Title: Booting from M.2 drive
Post by: njb on September 10, 2014, 11:04:09 pm
I have the Z97X-UD5H motherboard.  If I install a M.2 drive - does anyone know if I can boot from that drive.  Either the Sata or PCIe version of the M.2 drive.  Cheers.   :)

Yes you can just set it as your first boot device in bios.

I have the Plextor M.2 -256gb m6e, works like a charm.

Thanks for that.  It helps a lot.

Does anyone have any experience with the Samsung XP941.  This is a lot faster, using 4 PCIe lanes, but uses NVMe protocol instead of the older AHCI used by the Plextor unit.  Apparently NVMe is not so well supported by MB manufactures, or Window prior to 8.1, so there is some question around recognition of the drive at boot time.  It would be interesting if anyone had tried it with this board.
