Hi I was thinking of updating to a Z97 board but the only one I can see with wifi is a bit to pricey if I was to go for one of the ones without wifi could I use the card that came with my existing board the, Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5 TH Socket 1155 VGA DVI HDMI Dual Thunderbolt
-
Yes it should work OK although you may have to download the correct drivers from the Gigabyte site for your card.
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4135&dl=1&RWD=0#dl
There are three revisions of this card but the drivers seem to be the same for all of them.

Hi absic these are the choices any preferences.

I am actually using the GA-Z97X-UD5H motherboard myself and I have found this to be very good. Check my review here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,14703.0.html for more information.

Hi absic very good review I am still tied to the two top mobos and have a few questions
http://www.ebuyer.com/642521-gigaby...splayport-8-channel-audio-atx-ga-z97x-ud5h-bk, any problems with crossfire as I have 2x R9 290 cards now and what is the real difference between the two boards I know they are both good boards but being a gamer (not online ) would the http://www.ebuyer.com/642519-gigaby...displayport-8-channel-audio-ga-z97x-gaming-gt suit me better, this is my system now.

Here is a comparison of the two motherboards you are looking at: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/comparison/list.aspx?ck=2&pids=5106,4969
As you can see the GT board has different sound/on-board graphic options whilst the UD5H-BK has two LAN ports. The other big difference is with the PCI-e ports and as you are crossfiring I would go for the GT board as this should, in theory, be the better option to gain maximum graphic capabilities.
-
Hi absic I will go with your advice I see what you mean about the crossfire thanks for the advice I will be in touch when it comes, hope you and all yours are well, I don't see dark mantis what happened. regards Alan

Hi new motherboard arrived this morning Gigabyte Z97X-GAMING GT ( very nice looking board) I might have a go at switching it tomorrow but I have two questions should I download the latest bios for it and I see there is a crossfire strip do I need to use It as my last board crossfired through the slots, sorry three questions I don't see what rev it is.
-
If not having any problems updating the bios is a choice not a have to do thing. I always keep mine up to the latest non beta level. If you are crossfiring 2 AMD cards yes use the strip.
Revision is on the motherboard the very lower left corner by the mounting hole.
-
Hi autotech thanks for the info I will see what happens about the bios.

I have to agree on this. Updating is a person choice. I live by a golden rule. Don't Fix what isn't Broke.

Thanks dmdilks

Hi don't know whether anybody can help me but I bought an Coolermaster Hyper T4 cpu cooler to go with the motherboard when I ordered the cooler it said for Inten 1150 and on the box it says Intel 1150 but the fitting instructions don't say Intel 1150 the closest is Intel 1155 do I use these fitting instructions.

I have hit a bit of a problem when i start up power comes on fans start up DVD tries to read windows disc then system reboots and it goes through same routeen over and over again, any ideas.
-
Do you have it to boot to the DVD drive first. You should come on the screen that it will ask you if you want to boot to the DVD.
-
Hi it doesn't even reach the BIOS screen before it reboots, the monitor is just blank.
-
On the CPU cooler the 1155 & 1150 are the same. Do you have the CPU plug into the right connection on the board.
If it is doing the boot loop thing it is more likely the CPU, bent pin in the CPU socket, or the PSU.
If this is all new stuff put up a list of what parts you got.
-
no the dvd drive tries to read the disc for about 2 seconds but it never reaches the boot screen and i keep tapping f12 but it does no good all the system does is reboot,

Some older DVD/CD drives don't like to run in AHCI mode. This, of course can cause problems when it comes to installing the OS which is why I use the USB method.
Try connecting the DVD/CD Drive to the Marvell SATA ports and setting the Marvell Controller to IDE Mode.
-
Hi absic it was just bought a couple of months ago but i will try what you say.
-
not good news I stripped it all back down and removed the processor and found a few bent pins, called ebuyer and was told I should have noticed them before I installed the processor and notified them then the put me through to gigabyte and they said I could return it to them but they wanted to see a photo first to see if their people could sort it and they would be able to tell if it was my fault or not.
-
I have been doing this for a long time and when a computer boots and shut down and starts back up in a loop.
99% of the time when it is doing that it is something with the CPU area. The 1st 2 things it checks when it boots is the CPU fan & CPU.
Glad you found the problem Cookiebun. You learn from your mistakes and I have made a lot of them too.
I hope people that read this is you always when buying a MB that before you install any thing on it that you look it over.
-
Hi I got in touch with Gigabyte and the wanted to see a picture of the pins and I got an answer back this morning that they think it can be sorted so I have to send it to them, keep your fingers crossed.
-
Hi phoned Gigabyte tech today to find out if they had received my motherboard and they told me that their tech people had fixed the pins and tested the board and it was working plus it has been despatched and I should receive it tomorrow.
-
Hi repaired motherboard + new i5 processor + new Hyper T4 cpu cooler all installed and so far working okay windows 7 64bit all installed and updated and most of the programs installed just got to do the games now, onboard sound is great for music can't wait to hear the games. I would like to thank Gigabyte Tech for repairing the pins all it cost me was the postage, where as Ebuyer left me needing to buy a new motherboard, so far I am a happy bunnie.
-
Hi Cookiebun,
nice to see that things are now working and hope you can enjoy your new toy! ;D
