Title: Is Z68XP-UD3 motherboard compatible w N970WF3OC graphics card?
Post by: NCsleeves on October 22, 2014, 06:25:57 pm
Would like to upgrade, but the graphics card is PCIe 3.0 and the motherboard is PCIe 2.0 (I think).

EDIT:  Finally found the following in the motherboard manual: "(All PCI Express x16 slots conform to PCI Express 3.0 standard.)
* To support PCI Express 3.0, you must install an Intel 22nm CPU"

So the motherboard *should* be good.

If not all graphics cards are backward compatible also.

What version board do have? It has to be 1.3 and you will find that in the bottom left corner of the board. The thing is that people with that board had a lot of problems with the 700 series card that were 3.0.

Before you jump at that card I would make sure you have the 1.3 board and the latest bios F10. Plus you need the Ivory bridge CPU too. The sandy bridge doesn't support 3.0 cards.

One other thing is I'm not going tell you not to by that card. The thing is you are dealing with a board that is really over 3 yrs old. All I'm saying is that you better get all your ducks in a row.

Before you buy a card that might work or might not work. I don't like seeing people spend money on a older board that might not support a new card like that one.

Thanks for the info.  The CPU is Sandy Bridge and the board is Rev 1.0.  Pity.
