As above, my GA-Z68XP-UD4 MOBO, with Win8.1x64, crashes on the latest Marvell 88SE9172 Magni Driver 1.2.0.1041.
Crash frequency ranges from between 1-3 days. My machine just crashes and restarts.
The memory.dmp says....
BugCheck 1E, {ffffffff80000003, fffff801de093245, 0, 0}
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for mvs91xx.sys
Probably caused by : mvs91xx.sys ( mvs91xx+35245 )
No matter what I've tried (different drivers, installing/uninstalling, switching connected drive etc) I can't get the crashes to stop.
I have a dual dock external drive attached to the Marvell esata port on the rear of the mobo, so this is using port multiplier technology to see both drives in the dock.
Any ideas? I'm desperate, might have to try windows 7.
Thanks.

You are on the right path in thinking it is Windows 8. I would try Windows 7 and see if error still occurs that at least tells you if it is operating system's fault.

Thanks, I did have this machine on windows 7 previously and it was very stable.
I guess I have no choice but it is a big effort to downgrade. Windows is a pain to resinstall as I have to remove all my drives before doing so just to get it to install without an 0x800 blah blah error.

I know your pain been there to many times. Have had so many problems with windows 8 I went back to windows 7 myself. It reminds me to much of the way vista was very unstable. Of course once you took the time to get vista right it wasn't to bad not the same with windows 8 you can have it all right then pop its down on some weird error for no reason.

wreck1080. Does the port still work if you uninstall the 9172 driver? 8.1 may provide native support using MS storage drivers. Might be worth a try before abandoning your 8.1 install.

I tried that, but the default driver installed by windows 8 has the same bsod problem.
I'm will reinstall windows 7, my machine crashed again overnight and I've had enough. Fingers crossed.

OK, status update.
I reinstalled windows 7 and have not had a single crash for 4 or so days now. I think that is enough time to consider the issue solved.
I'm guessing there is some driver - OS conflict in windows 8 with the marvell chip.
So, all good and my opinion is that windows 7 is nicer than 8 so it is a win-win.

Windows 8 has had so many problems and Microsoft knows it can not be fixed. Why Windows 10 is right around the corner.

Because they have to try put the two feet they just shot off back on. Windows 8 the 1st foot and windows 8.1 with the 2nd foot. ;D Plus if it doesn't work they should just put the gun to their head and end it. :-[

Amen, Linux is so much more user friendly now a days wont be long before windows loses the fight the way they are going. Why they are trying to get into the mobile market so bad.

I seriously considered linux. But, I wasn't sure if it would have all the drivers I require (SIL3124/3132/marvell/USB etron etc), and software such as truecrypt. And, how does it work with my SSD which requires trim support. Just a lot of things to consider.
I don't know linux that well either, and it would take me a while to learn the CLI type stuff to get the machine working on reboot.
Maybe when I have some time off work :)
