Title: New Z97P-D3 mobo- no network adapter in device manager
Post by: mcplums on December 05, 2014, 10:45:08 am
I have built a completely new pc and it works great except there is no LAN. Windows can't even detect any LAN hardware to add drivers to- plus there are no items in device manager without drivers. I have checked the BIOS and LAN is enabled. There are no flashing lights on the LAN port. Is this an RMA issue? Hopefully not.

Greetings,
Not good if you have verified it's enabled in BIOS.

Is there a Network Adapters heading in DM at all?

Other option, load set up defaults in BIOS, save, restart.

CLR_CMOS, Load set up defaults, restart

Pull MB battery, wait a few minutes, retest

You can try to rescan for hardware changes in Device Manager, but you could be looking at RMA if all BIOS settings are correct and windows doesn't see the device at all.

Thanks buddy, I tried all that and still doesnt work. And no, no heading in device manager about network adapters at all. I am keen to avoid an rma so I bought a pci ethernet card and That doesn't work either! I get the code 12 'not enough resources' error. Getting pissed off with this.

When you changed out motherboard did you do a fresh install of windows or did you do a image back up or just used old hard drive? What windows are you using?

I did a fresh install of windows, windows 7 64 bit.

That said, after building the new pc I did boot my old hard drive once before wiping it and doing a fresh install. I did not think to check at the time whether internet was working.

After doing a fresh install and before checking if internet was working I did install the motherboard drivers and video card driver. Would you advise reinstalling windows and checking device manager before I manually install a single driver?

it would narrow it down. When installing use only 1 stick of ram and 1 hard drive and just what you need to get it going.
