Post by: kammak743 on December 06, 2014, 04:29:42 pm
Does the B85M-DS3H support haswell refresh processors (in particular the i3-4160) without a bios update.

Greetings,
3 revs of this board are available 1.1, 2.0, 3.0.  Which are you?

v1.1 does since BIOS F5
v2.0 does since BIOS FC
v3.0 does since bios F2

The info is freely available on the support and D/L page for your board and rev#.

What if I am about to buy it at an online retailer where they do not specify the revision number.
Are all current versions of this board compatible and come with the right firmware?

You can flash it once you get it. Don't have hard drive attached and use a USB formatted in fat. Download and unzip bios to the USB. Then upon first start up go into bios and flash it from the utility there.

How would this work if the cpu(i3-4160) would not work without the bios flash?

Most likely it will work but since bios cant tell what it is will reduce speed to 800MGHTZ.  After the flash it will pick it up correctly. I have done my method many times and so far ( knock on wood ) it has worked every time.  My 4790k needed a bios flash to work in this board had F3 on it and had to go to F6. Just flash it thru bios utility so hit delete to enter bios and at bottom it will tell you what key to press for flashing.  Will turn mine off real quick and see what key it is BRB.

Mine is F8 for Q-Flash. It starts in UEFI and I hit F2 to go to classic view then I hit F8 and point it at the USB drive. Let it run till it restarts then go back into bios and hit failsafe defaults. Then restart and turn off install Hard drive and OS.
