Title: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P Failing?
Post by: ronbo613 on January 14, 2015, 05:06:18 pm
Recently, I tried moving some large files from one hard drive to another when the copying process slows to a stop and locks up the system. While the system is failing, static can sometimes be heard through the headphones. Eventually, I wind up with a black screen and have to restart. Ran Prime95 for a few hours with no problems, system temperatures and voltages are normal.

I am starting to wonder if the Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD4P motherboard is failing. Does this sound like something that would be a symptom of motherboard failure? Is there any way to check for problems?

That sounds like a compatibility problem with one of your drives. I had a large usb drive that would do most of the same to me. Start out great but in 2 minutes down to 15kbps transfer rate then freeze. My computer didn't shut off but that could still be your drive.

I ran the computer with Ubuntu from a USB thumb drive and was able to transfer large files without any problems so there is a pretty good chance that the problem is software related. The Marvell controller on this board is always a potential problem source so sometimes it's hard to pinpoint problems when drives are attached to it.
