Title: Via USB2 Hub problems 78lmt-usb3
Post by: cakey on January 18, 2015, 10:29:31 am
Hi, My motherboard is a  78lmt-usb3 The problem I am having is with a 1TB Samsung External HD that is USB 3.0 compatible, my new motherboard has two USB 3.0 ports on the back, I have installed all drivers for this, however on reboot of my pc it vanishes I can re-install the drivers from the disc and it seems to start working again, however after a few reboot's it's gone again,

The only error in device manager is for a via USB2.0 Hub and windows can't find drivers for it, if I point it towards the disc that came with my Motherboard it installs, that error goes away and the HD starts working in the USB 3.0 port, on reboot it's gone again. It works fine in a USB 2.0 port, it's worth noting my case also has a USB 3.0 port that is connected and not working either, it is powering the HD as the light comes on.

On older chipset motherboards that is a known problem. USB3 drivers come and go. No solution that I have ever seen except a newer chipset motherboard and by newer the Z97 chipset works great anything older than that has problems.

I would call it a botched via usb implementation (Gigabyte) as I have the same problem and it is a well known issue for my board. Power off/on and the controller reappears until next time it happens again.

Not sure other system board brands suffer the same fate?
