Title: Power query with i7 CPU and ReFlex Gigabyte Z97
Post by: Andy9 on April 03, 2015, 12:40:07 pm
Good Afternoon all,

Apologies for this silly question, I have searched the net and searched the forum, but still bit confused, its been a while since I last built a PC so I am a tiny bit rusty.....

I am confused, on the motherboard there are connections that are labelled ATX and ATX_12V_2X4

The power supply has the normal 24 pin connector for power to the board, but it also has an 8 pin connector that is labelled CPU

Do the CPUs have a separate power supply, I thought the 24 Pin powers the CPU,

So do I also connect the 8 Pin from the PSU labelled CPU into the ATX_12V_2X4 and the 24 block into the ATX on the motherboard

My Spec is as below:

Gigabyte Z97-HD3 (Socket 1150) ATX Motherboard

Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150 Processor

TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel

Antec High Current Gamer M 750W "80+ Bronze" Modular Power Supply: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-197-AN

Many Thanks in advance

Connect both 1 x 20+4pin and 1 x 4+4 ATX pin. The ATX_12V_2X4 powers the CPU.

Don't feel bad about this. It happen to me one time too. When Intel first change the boards to have a 4 pin power connection for the CPU. I didn't see it and went nuts trying to get the board to boot.

I even went as far as to have to CPU check at a computer store. It has been awhile since you build a computer. They change that back in the early 2000's
