hey first post and rather illiterate regarding computers defiantly bios settings ive just brought some corsair vengeance 1866mhz memory but it is only running at 1333mhz ive done alot of reading online with manly answers i don't wanna hear lol but basically ive tried to set the x.m.p to profile1 and i get a boot error trying to revert to previous settings now i have checked the memory is compatible at this speed and with this board on the gigabyte website but ive read you cannot run 4x4gb at 1866mhz in this board (after buying it i might add).
so i just want to confirm im not being stupid or in fact it cannot be done.
990FXA-UD5
CORSAIR VENGEANCE 1866MHZ 4X4GB
FX-8350
I think that's all the information required i have also done a bios update to the FB bios.
any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi there,
you should be able to run your RAM at 1866MHz as you are using an FX CPU. The speed limitation is mainly due to the older Phenom architecture.
I have found that trying to use the XMP profile(s) on AMD is a bit hit and miss and it is actually better if you manually set the speed, timings and voltage in BIOS.

yeah i have tried to set it manually but still get error message on boot, im not great with this sort of thing but basically ive put in all the latency's i know that's on the ram spec and speed and voltage settings and i just receive an error message on boot. ive read that xmp profiles are for intel boards and dont work with amd i just thought i must be missing something. i have contacted gigabyte and corsair but no reply, spend alot of money on there products and have no technical help at all.

I run the UD3 at 1866 no probs but with 2x8GB ram - test with 2x4 and see if that works for ya.
If not you have another problem - make sure the bios is on all auto and XMP 1866 should run instantly.
In my experience tinkering with the bios settings is problematic on any AMD Gigabyte board.

i have spoken to corsair and they are saying you cant run 4x4gb at 1866mhz on this board. seems pointless having 4 ram slots if you can only use 2 in overclock nevermind!
thanks!

Actually it's a FX limitation - 2 banks 1866, 4 banks 1600 (single sided), 4 banks 1333 (double sided)
maybe the next generation CPU will support full speed on 4 banks?
