Title: Z170x-Gaming 5 no audio sound W10
Post by: mvegig on December 23, 2015, 11:40:17 pm
Works fine on Linux, but on Windows 10 installation, I get no sound out from  Speakers- Realtek High Definition Audio, regular audio out jack to 2 spk+subwoofer.  Detects when speaker cable is pulled in and out and test shows green bars.  When I plug in a separate headset to the USB, audio is fine.

I've installed the Soundblaster X-fi software and the Realtek.  Uninstalled and re-installed.  I don't know if under Sound, vdeo, and game controllers there's supposed to be a Sound Blaster device but there's not - only Intel audio + Realtek HD Audio.

Seemingly there's nothing left to fiddle with.

Ideas?

Thanks but this link showed a problem with the DSP being enabled in BIOS and the device not being found during installation of the soundcard drivers. In my case, everything seems to have installed correctly - the software can even tell when I pull the cable jack out from the sound card (and it's the correct one!) - but no sound actually goes through my speakers.  Again, when I reboot into Linux with everything physically the same, it works perfectly, so it's some kind of driver or software glitch.

Well than it is a windows 10 thing. I run a Z170x-gaming 3 with the same audio setup. I have run windows 10 then 7 with no problems. I bought mine for testing. Your Linux is running it fine. So that is telling you it isn't hardware it is software or more likely windows 10.

The thing is that windows 10 and I hate to say this it is really still in the beta stage. I'm still in their beta program with up dates all the time to fix this and that. Plus on my board I had where the winsock went bad. I had to do a reset on the winsock on a new install of windows 10.

mvegig,
We all agree is likely a driver issue.  Are you sure have the output device properly configured.  Port sense working, just not getting audio.  Ensure the output you have selected is supported by your playback device, type of seakers/connection, etc.
