Title: GA-Z170 motherboards need 2133 DDR4 RAM.
Post by: aarcane on January 11, 2016, 02:01:08 am
So the topic says it all.  You should be able to boot with 2400, or 3200, but you simply can't.  Only 2133 will POST the systems.  Bios' up to F5/ 2015/10/13 versions do not fix the problem.  F6 versions are in BETA still.  You must manually with 2133 RAM, then set your bios settings to use 2133 instead of auto-detect.  Only then can you replace your 2133 RAM with faster 2400, or better, but it will still run at 2133 max.  If you update your BIOS, or clear CMOS, you'll have to use 2133 RAM to post again.

I have two questions I want to track answers to
1) Have any of the F6 beta bioses fixed this bug?
2) Has anyone been able to run their RAM at faster than 2133 after posting?

I have a Z170-gaming-3 board and I couldn't get it to run faster memory no matter what I did. I have two X99 boards and they run the memory fine. Here is a few Video's to watch. I have said this time in time again just as what he is saying. I has no running the 2400 at 2133 but couldn't get it to 2400.

I have a GA-Z170X-UD5 (rev. 1.0) latest bios and I have my ram running at 3200 by setting spd1 profile.   no problems with it since 8-23-2015 with windows 7

I had to do this too but I'm able to run at 2400 but no higher even though my RAM sticks are manufacturer rated to run at 2666. Interested to see if there's a fix.

My board and RAM for reference:

My ram runs at 2800 on Profile 1. Profile 2 refuses to boot.
I updated the bios to F4. F2 said something about XMP issues.
