I have a lot of problems with the Thunderbolt FW Update Tool... I always get the error that there was no thunderbolt controller found, after I had to reinstall Windows for some other reasons, the tool worked for the first time right after the fresh install. I waited till 100%, shutdown the PC and pulled the power cord like I was told to do. After that I started the PC again, tried to start the upgrade program again with the expectation that I see something like "FW is up-to-date" or something like that... but instead the old error message reappeared! That there's no thunderbold controller! I didn't change anything between those 2 restarts... So now that there's a new version out there, Thunderbolt FW Update Tool B16.0201.1" I was hoping that the tool would work at least one time again... but no luck... Anyone else with similiar problems?
My bios version is F7K and my thunderbold software version is 15.3.39.250... so that shouldn't be the issue here.

Does it show up in the Device Manager? What slot are you running it in?
-
Don't know where to check for the slot, but it's in the device manager.
I added a screenshot of the uefi settings for the thunderbolt controller(which I didn't touch).
-
There is a add-on card you can use that is why ask about the slot. I'll have to pull my test computer out of the box and see what mine does.

Well I check my board and it doesn't support it. What is the date on the driver. Does it work or are you having problems with it?
-
I can't really follow you... The GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 has onboard thunderbolt and therefore there's a firmware update tool for that controller. But The tool doesn't work. You can Download it here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5481#utility

Have you tried to pull the battery and clear the Cmos? Then try it again.
-
Didn't change a thing, I also tried to go back to F7g, because it's the official bios version, that didn't help either
-
I'm sorry I can't help you because my board doesn't have thunderbolt. I mostly got the board to help with problems. The only thing I can say talk to support and see what they have to say sorry.

I did that already and they were clueless, at least the german support, they send the problem over to the taiwan branch, but this will take a while
