Title: Memory Stick for GA-P55-USB3
Post by: roey on February 12, 2016, 02:08:11 pm
Hey  ,
I have This Motherboard -  GA-P55-USB3  , Rev 2.0

Is this board supports  of 8GB  stick ?
I want to buy 2X8 - this product :
http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX316C10F_8.pdf (http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX316C10F_8.pdf)
In addittion , in the Specification of the board the 1600Mhz doesn't appear. Someone know if I buy Hyper-X 2X8gb 1600 Mhz it will work?
Maybe I need to upgrade my BIOS?
Thanks.

You might be better buying 4 - 4gb sticks. There is another person asking the same thing and I test it the other day and it wouldn't boot. What is the CPU that you are using? Plus stay with the memory the CPU supports too like 1066 or 1333.

My CPU is :  http://ark.intel.com/products/48496/Intel-Core-i5-760-Processor-8M-Cache-2_80-GHz (http://ark.intel.com/products/48496/Intel-Core-i5-760-Processor-8M-Cache-2_80-GHz)
If I use the 1600Mhz memory it will work?  I guess will be a automatic down to 1333Mhz , am I right?

rorey,
Yes and no.  1600Mhz ram often SPD detects at 1333Mhz but can have profiles in JEDEC chips for 1600Mhz operation.  However, this is not guaranteed as it depends on the chips being used.

Your Kingston RAM appears to be fixed at 1600Mhz (default):

• JEDEC standard 1.5V (1.425V ~1.575V) Power Supply
• VDDQ = 1.5V (1.425V ~ 1.575V)
• 800MHz fCK for 1600Mb/sec/pin
• 8 independent internal bank
• Programmable CAS Latency: 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6
• Programmable Additive Latency: 0, CL - 2, or CL - 1 clock

But supports programmable timings...

PnP JEDEC TIMING PARAMETERS:
• DDR3-1600 CL10-10-10 @1.5V
• DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9 @1.5V
• DDR3-1066 CL7-7-7 @1.5V

In some cases, the RAM can/will work PnP...  BUT, If the RAM doesn't work PnP, please try manually setting your timings and voltage to DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9 @1.5V and see if this helps.

Hi,  i knew this topic is a little old.    ;D

For first generation i7/i5/i3.
The max RAM module u can use is 4GB (sixteen 256 M X 8 ) ,which is very rare in the market now , unless u buy the second hand module.
the speed (eg: 1600Mhz, 1333Mhz,...etc) is not really a issue here.
Pls be noticed that ,the latest 4GB DDR3 with DRAM Organization eight 512M x8 won't work with your pc. (so, 8GB with sixteen 512M x8  won't work either)

p/s: please click the thumb up , if anyone think this info is useful. thanks alotx.
