Hi all,
I took advantage of a recent Microcenter sale. For under 500$ I bought a PhenomII 720 X3& GA-MA785GMT-UD2H version 1.1(combo deal) Gigabyte HD5770 Adata 1600G series 2x2gb dual-channel kit and an LG GH22LS50. I reused my old chieftec mid tower case and Corsair 550tx psu.
The build was completely painless pure plug and play was running memtest in a half hour. 4th core unlocked even after updating the bios to the current F7. I'm very pleased with this motherboard. The Adata was immediately recognized and set unganged at the correct timings will only run at 1333 instead of 1600..more of a cpu issue from what I've read since it's stepping is 2 revision RB-C2.. no big deal since I am able to tighten up the timings currently running it at :
Memory Frequency 669.7 MHz (3:10)
CAS# latency (CL) 7.0
RAS# to CAS# delay (tRCD) 7
RAS# Precharge (tRP) 7
Cycle Time (tRAS) 20
Bank Cycle Time (tRC) 27
Command Rate (CR) 1T
also tested it at
Memory Frequency 669.7 MHz (3:10)
CAS# latency (CL) 8.0
RAS# to CAS# delay (tRCD) 8
RAS# Precharge (tRP) 8
Cycle Time (tRAS) 22
Bank Cycle Time (tRC) 30
Command Rate (CR) 1T
Other timings left at default
I highly recommend anyone looking to build a comp on a budget to give the Adata G series a look All on stock voltages same for the cpu just changed the multiplier to 15x to run at 3ghz.
Love the Gigabyte HD5770 to shorter than my old agp card uses less power, quieter and much more powerful..I'm not a big gamer but for the 1st time in years I'm able to play EverQuest at max settings shadows enabled at 1920x1080 on my viewsonic VX2260WM.
I'm dual-booting Windows 7 Pro 64bit and Mandriva linux 2010.0 64 bit no issues(ahci mode)
Windows experience CPU 7.3 Memory 7.5 graphics and gaming graphics both 7.4 hdd 5.9 lol from what I've read only way to score higher is to run raid.
I just wanted to share a pleasant experience here.
Thanks Gigabyte for a sweet mb :)

Hi,
It's nice to see someone posting because they are happy rather than because of problems! ;D
Thanks for sharing

Nice! That is so cheap, here in the UK tax would push that price up higher :(
Lucky too! I usually have one component fail me on delivery when building an entire new pc, glad to see you're happy with it! Ahh windows experience index, not too reliable for a benchmarking platform :P

your welcome thought it would be a nice change of pace ;)

Hehe I was a bit shocked..my last 2 builds it was 1 stick of bad ram...made 3 trips to Fry's (same day) before I got a working matched pair of OZC.
I just had to throw the index reference out there..I always run a new build through a few real benchmarks just to make sure every thing is running
as it should and weed out and potential bad parts..nothing worse than having a component fail after the return date and dealing with manufacturor's rma instead

Update seems the F7 bios had a nice extra fix..I'm now running the Adata at 1600MHz..to be fair I didn''t test F6..just know if failed with F5.
Memory Frequency 803.6 MHz
FSB:Dram (1:4)
CAS# latency (CL) 8.0
RAS# to CAS# delay (tRCD) 8
RAS# Precharge (tRP) 8
Cycle Time (tRAS) 24
Bank Cycle Time (tRC) 33
Command Rate (CR) 1T
I'm not sure I'm going to bother trying to tighten the timings anymore..probably not worth the effort for any small gain.

AMD's are definietly lookin' good again.
I spent a small fortune just lately for my Gigabyte Intel Core I7 rig, and then I saw this.
http://pccyber.com/?v=Product&i=CPU-AMD-HDT55TFBGRBOX
:o
(Trouble is, I know this local store, and they don't always stock what they say)
But ya, I could have build an AMD rig around this PhenomII-X6, and for just 2/3 of the price of what my Intel i7 rig cost,
Now I gotta wait a bit just to afford an HD 5870...
;)
ahh well.
maybe next time.
