Title: GA-Z170X-UD3 Manual Question
Post by: Maistro on March 23, 2016, 11:19:10 am
Hello!

I'm having trouble understanding what a table in the manual for my motherboard means and was hoping someone can explain it to me.

Here is the page of the manual in question. i have marked the part that would apply to me.
http://imgur.com/Necu9Hy (http://imgur.com/Necu9Hy) (or as attached file)

I have a single M.2 SSD in the M2A_32G Slot and at the moment 3 HDDs, 1 SSD and 1 DVD drive in the SATA Ports 0 to 4.
I was planning to add a 4th HDD but i'm not sure how to read this table.

At the beginning of the page it says "installing different types of M.2 SSDs" which is not the case for me, but if this table is about M.2 devices i would somehow assume there should also be a column next to the SATA3_x columns for the two M.2 Slots M2A_32G and M2D_32G.

Can someone please explain the table to me, or tell me if i will be ok adding a 6th SATA device?
And what would happen if i would populate the M2D_32G M.2 slot at some future time?

Thanks!

If you want to run Raid you put the M2 in the slot near the CPU. You might lose 1 or 2 of the ports. That would be Sata 4 & 5.

If you want to run AHCI and not Raid put the M2 in the one between the PCI Express slots. That one you should be able to use all the sata ports.
