Title: Ummmm...Help.
Post by: Baron on April 26, 2016, 06:53:42 pm
On my G1 Gmaing Z170X motherb board there are two M.2 slots, and I have managed to lose the two screws that hold the Samsung 950 256GB drives on the board.

They have dropped down into the bottom of my case somewhere, and cannot find the little devils.

Does anyone know where I can obtain some spare screws, so that I can mount them again, and have a few left over ?

Googling hasn't given me much of a clue, but perhaps someone here knows where to get some spares ?

Very many thanks if someone comes up with an answer.... ;D 8)

Just tilt the case left & right, back and forth...  gently, they will come lose.

Is the PSU in the bottom of the case and if is does fan face up? IF does then the screws could be in the PSU and that isn't good.

I tried sort of rolling the case from side to side, but heard nothing.
I have a torch with a center extendable antenna like magnet picker-upper ready, but no joy so far.

I have a Phanteks Primo (big and heavy) case, and I think the two little screws dropped down through one/two of the bottom 140mm fans, and now that the PC is fully built, it will be a bit of a bugger to dismantle those two fans to see if I can find the little screws.  :(

The PSU is mounted on its side with the fan facing the filtered outlet grill, and is on the bottom on the other side of the chassis enclosed in a metal shroud, so there is no way the screws can get any where near the PSU.

So I figured to try and source some replacement screws, and it is not going well.... :(

Mean time, I have two Samsung 950 M.2 Nvme 256GB cards feeling all left out and sad...and lost their screws when I removed them when I was trying to get Windows 7 installed (yes I run that because a couple of sites I use will not work with Chrome or Edge), but I also run Windows 10 on another drive.
It all got a bit complicated, and caused much use of Paracetamol trying to get every thing up and running.  ;D

Looks like I am stuffed then....

I always mount my PSU's fan side up at the bottom of the case.  Down/outside draws in too much dust...  maybe my house is dirty  ;D.  I have a cat too, so fur is part of life.  My PC is on the ground under my desk, not on top.  Loose screws are not good.  I'd do what I had to find them.  Up to you of course.

Thanks.
With this case I can only mount the PSU on the bottom of the case, on its side, with the fan facing the side panel grill.

Since the PC is not working atm, I will have to dismantle the two bottom fans and see if I can find the two little pesky devils.  :)
