I have Z170X-Designare bios F2 but I dont see Thunderbolt in bios. Where is it?
Check under the Peripherals Tab
-
There is nothing.
I looked through all the bios and I do not see anywhere thunderbolt.
-
Yes indeed. This is in the manual...
To connect more devices, adjust Thunderbolt™-related settings under Peripherals\Intel(R) Thunderbolt in BIOS
But I don't see the settings under Peripherals either.
Have you installed it under the OS... the driver and the FW updater???
You may have to reach out to support for this one.

Windows 10 pro x64
Thunderbolt Driver 16.1.47.275
When I try to do Thunderbolt FW Update B16.0718.1 is error

and whatever connection to port USB-C voltage is but nothing works
-
Open a ticket with Support. The fact that its missing from the BIOS doesn't seem right.

I reported a long time ego but no one responds.

Try again and reference this thread.

I tried to do an update Thunderbolt 10-15 Times and always was a mistake.
Today I did again and success - Thunderbolt controler driver version - 16.1.47.2
And thunderbolt is in bios now !!!
Everything works well (USB-C )
Sorry for My English.
-
Congrats! So now we know the driver adds the device in DM. Did you run the FW update utility as well? I want to confirm what puts the entry in BIOS for my own knowledge.

update thunderbolt done miracle - keep trying update thunderbolt

Hmm, ok seems your board doesn't have the firmware updater component..... Just the driver. Thanks.

Before assuming that its the hardware, how about some history on this build? Purchased new? Fresh install of windows? Installing as admin user? You had what I believe is way too much trouble installing the TB driver. Are you having any other issues, system instability, etc?
Please provide your system specs. All hardware, OS, etc
I'd try System Restore. If that works its probably your install and not the MB.

Z170X-Designare, Intel i7 6700K, DDR 2 x 8 Gb Trident Z, BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 11 850 W, Corsair H115i watercooler, Intel NVMe SSD 750 series U.2, WD 4 Tb hybrid, DVD rom ASUS DRW-24D5MT, Mastercase Maker 5, Windows 10 pro x64, I am administrator, fresh install with all drivers from Gigabyte, Intel ...
Norton Internet Security 2016 and Office 2016, Corsair link 4, Intel toolbox only
All work good only - USB-C / thunderbolt ...
-
Helpful, thanks. ;)
Results of System Restore?
-
it did not work
I disconnected the power for 5 minutes and appeared thunderbolt in the BIOS but in datails thunderbolt - Controller driver version is unknown.
I uninstalled and again I install drivers for thunderbolt still no change
nothing works in USB-C
it is a symptom that falls controller usb-c/thunderbolt or motherboard?
-
Wow, not the behavior you'd expect from a $214 MB. I would try one more thing.
Uninstall the device and driver from Device Manager
Uninstall the FW utility if present in Programs and Features
Open an elevated command prompt, run sfc /scannow - check integrity of OS files. Will likely come back clean. But report these results. If you are so inclined, review your System Event Viewer for errors/issues.
Shut down. Disconnect from Power, Reconnect, cold boot. Enter BIOS, Perform Clear_CMOS. F10 to save.
When the system restarts, enter BIOS, set up from scratch
F10, boot into windows
Re-install the TB driver
Run the FW update utility
Results?
If this doesn't work... I would see if you can swap the board out with the retailer where you purchased? Otherwise, I'd open an RMA with Gigabyte and get myself a replacement.
There isn't much to mess up here. One BIOS rev. One set of drivers/FW Utility. I was leaving towards a software issue, but with the device disappearing and reappearing after a cold boot, I would be looking at a more permanent solution. As you will have taken reasonable steps to troubleshoot and resolve. Keep us posted.

Solving PC issues can be challenging, but some things should just work. You've taken reasonable steps to resolve and are not having other issues except this. Had things like upgrading your OS, or flashing your BIOS taken place, I might be more inclined to push a software issue. Instead you'd have this problem right out of the box. New build, fresh install.
Your hardware selections, appear fine. Nice rig. You can try another install of the OS. Maybe a reset first, if you decide to go this route. Failing that, I'd be looking to get it replaced. Yes, pulling the MB is a pain. Sometimes cutting your loses and moving forward is the quickest solution.

I got a new motherboard (old was made at 24 week and new 33 week 2016)
Everything works well.
Thunderbolt was immediately in the BIOS and immediately is USB-C (3.1)
Interestingly otherwise appear on the screen while making the update thunderbolt but this detail.
