Title: Z270x gaming 9 thermal throttle
Post by: Doug2507 on September 06, 2017, 05:26:53 am
Hi,

After already having to rma the board for a manufacturing default I've now got thermal throttling and 7700k is stuck at 800mhz. (Confirmed by xtu).

F7b bios.
Fully watercooled with low 20's idle temp.
No change with clear cmos.
No change with c states/speedstep/turbo/thermal monitor.
Windows on max perf.

Solution?

Hello,

The board might have an issue or it really is CPU related.

Check the CPU socket pins, mis-aligned or bent pin can cause issues.
Uneven pressure distribution with your cooler mounting bracket, take it off and tighten in the correct sequence.

1,2,3,4 = screws, slowly turn in the order shown, do not fully tighten a screw. All must be done progressively.

Also there is an ECO button on the board, not sure what it does but is could alter the CPU voltages / frequency.

Yeah, I'll check mount but never had this with other boards. Been building / overclocking for years and not seen this one before hence posting here. Not much else to try apart from remount tbh. Hopefully sorts it, already been without board for two months...

No change. Had to disable thermal with throttlestop to fix. Board must have a dodgy thermal sensor. Rma again. Not impressed for flagship board.
