hello...hope allare well
my specs.....GA-790XTA-UD4 BIOS F2 , AMD PhII x4 965 BE Revision RB0C3 (125W)
XFX Radeon 5770 1GB amd 10.4 drivers , Kingston HyperX Dual Channel Kit - minne - 4 GB ( 2 x 2 GB ) - DIMM 240-pin - DDR3 KHX1600C9D3K2/4G running at 1600 9,9,9,27 1.8V , Corsair TX750 PSU,
Cooler Master Hyper TX 3 - processorcoolerer, Win 7 64 bit 7 Home Premium, NZXT case. DEll 2¤2 screen connected by HDMI
I have had occasions where the PC will shutdown then restart....I have now changed a setting that will stop the PC automatically restarting on a Critical error...although I have read other threads and this doesn't seem to work with this problem...Anyway I have run Memtest86+ but found no errors...I know this doesn't meanthe RAM is good...only that it passed the test.
Anyway what I am trying to do is to make sure all my drivers are up to date...The sound drivers I have are
a) ATI HDMI Audio driver vers 6.0.1.5897
b) Realtex high definition audio 6.0.1.6029
Network adapters Realtex PCIe GBE Family Controller 7.6.820.2009
I also have realtex HD Audio manager
on the gigabyte website there are two updates namely the Audi version R2.46 (think I tried this before but lost the realtex HD audio manager) and the Realtek Realtek LAN Driver 7.017
My question is :
do I need to upadte these and how do I know if I need to update the other drivers ?
Thanks fo the help :)
-
Hi there
Realtek's audio drivers were the reason my pc was blue screening
the latest ones from www.realtek.com.tw should be ok
they do a standard HD-Audio driver that includes the Audio manager with all the cool effects etc.
they also host the ATI HDMI driver
Latest drivers are a good place to start when trying to solve stability issues
windows will often report that the VGA driver has failed , when in fact it is the result of a different driver failing.
good luck

Hi,
Running the same board with BIOS F3. The basic change is to enable the AMD Phenom ii Hex Core CPU's to be run on this board, which they do.
However, this version of BIOS has disabled some of the options regarding IDE/SATA which means I now have to go through the POST checking for IDE devices that aren't there. You might also want to check out this thread: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,1949.msg8699.html#msg8699 with another issue regarding the F3 BIOS.
I have experienced the odd BSOD and have found them to be due to memory timing & voltage. If you haven't got this set correctly in BIOS (F2 & F3) the system will crash. Try running your system with default settings (it will downclock the memory to 1333 Mhz) and run like that for a while to see if the problem persists. If the system runs OK then just alter the Memory Clock to 8x (make no other changes) to give your 1600 Mhz memory and see how that runs. I have discovered that my Corsair memory is happy at this but if I start altering timings and voltages to those stated it becomes very unstable.
Hope this helps

absic115 ...sorry to hear that you are having prob's with F3......I guess UR saying that I should NOT update from F2 to F3,,,
with regards the RAM part num KHX1600C9D3K2 I am presently at 1.8 v and beleive I can go to 1.9V
Should I try this first?...the crashes are random and can go 2-4 weeks betwwen ..then i'll get two or three.
otherwise dropping it down to 1333Mhz should I run at 1.5V timimg still 9,9,9,27 ?

thanks and good luck with the new CPU

Hi,
To be honest the F3 BIOS is OK but the Gigabyte Techies have decided to change some things that didn't need changing. If you are not too worried about the loss of disabling the IDE channel and the other minor niggles I would go for the F3. (I haven't noticed bad errors with temps but I don't use AMD over-drive or Easytune. At present by CPU temp is 26 C and I have been running the rig since 7 am this morning.
The memory problems were mainly encountered with the F2 BIOS and as I have only been running the F3 for 4 days I can't give a full opinion but it does seem to be pretty solid once you get past POST and BOOT.
I would suggest letting BIOS handle your memory configuration in the first instance. This will downclock to 1333 Mhz and set the optimal timings and voltages. For example my Corsair Dominator should run at 1.65 volts but is currently running at 1.5 and is stable with all of the timing settings at default.
Once this is done and, if the system appears to be stable, just alter the Memory Clock as I mentioned earlier, leaving all other settings at default (AUTO), this seems to be working for me. OK, the timings aren't exactly as they should be (8,8,8,24) but to be honest I haven't noticed any drop in performance!

what the best metfhod to update in your opinion.I have no floppy drive... The sytem "appears" stable its jsut taht i get these a few tiomes a month.
Could the update possibly help my BSOD...the problems i have have been posted here (microsoft site)

Hi,
From what you are saying I would go with the F3 BIOS as the issues I have noticed are not that great and system stability does seem to have improved since I updated.
The best way to update BIOS, in my opinion, is to use the QFlash utility.
There are a couple of steps to take before updating BIOS, the first is to download the latest version from the web. Be careful that you get the right BIOS version for your motherboard and in particular check out your motherboard's revision number prior to downloading.
Once you have downloaded the correct BIOS Unzip the folder using WinRAR, 7Zip, Winzip etc., Save the folder to your desktop for easy access.
You will find a USB Stick is the best way of flashing BIOS so make sure the stick has been formatted in FAT32. Next copy the BIOS folder, that you have extracted (and saved on your desktop) to the USB Stick.
Leave the USB stick plugged into your PC and re-boot. As the PC starts up press the "END" key on your keyboard (you might have to press the "END" key several times during start-up before you see the message regarding QFlash, this is normal so don't worry, just as you would the "DEL" key for entering BIOS). You can also get to the QFlash Utility if you are at the BIOS Home Screen by pressing F8 on your keyboard.
The PC will enter the QFlash utility and you need to locate the folder on the USB Stick and then follow the on-screen instructions. (It is worth checking out your User's Manual for a couple of screen shots Pg's 66 & 67 show these.)
When the BIOS update is complete re-boot the PC and go back into BIOS.
Load optimised defaults, save and exit.
When the PC reboots you will see that the new BIOS is installed.
Here are my current system specs:

Thanks for the advice ...as you know the AMD PhII x4 965 BE Revision RB0C3 (125W)
is a black edition...Do you know what setting I should have for Advanced Clock Calibration ( sét at disabled at the moment) ? should this be set to AUTO ? page38 in book
also AMD C1E support isst as disabled page 46
I will update the BIOS when I have time...i.e kids not standing over me waiting for PC.... :-) bless 'em .
thanks

Hi,
Do you know what setting I should have for Advanced Clock Calibration ( sét at disabled at the moment) ? should this be set to AUTO ? Also AMD C1E support isst as disabled
I have left these both at their default settings. As I mentioned before, once I updated BIOS to F3 I loaded optimized defaults. I then disabled a few of the integrated peripherals that I don't use (On-board ESATA, Audio and Serial Port) and the only thing I changed in MIT was the Set Memory Clock from AUTO to MANUAL and the Memory clock from x6.66 to x8 which gives the 1600 Mhz rating for the memory. I have left all the memory timings and voltages at default.
Hope this helps

hello my usb key (crusier micro 8GB ) isn't showing in Q flash ....only floppy and HD
the files I have are 79XTAUD4.F3 (F3 file)
autoexec (windows batch file ..this doesn't appear to be copied when I transfer files to usb key)
and FLASHSPI (Aplication)
waht am I doing wrong please :-O doh!!!!
thanks

Hi
Your USB key needs to be 2Gb or less and inserted before booting. It must also be formatted to FAT or FAT32.
-
Hi,
When using USB Key for flashing BIOS you need to make sure that it is formatted as FAT32.
The F3 BIOS folder (once downloaded and extracted) should have 3 files in it and is called mb_bios_ga-790xta-ud4_f3. These are: 79XTAUD4.F3 (1,024 KB) - autoexec (1KB) - FLASHSPI (26KB).
The folder with all 3 files needs to be copied to the USB stick. (If you are having trouble copying any of the files, try disabling your Anti-virus first)
When you restart your PC and enter QFlash the USB Drive will actually appear as a HDD (on my machine it shows as HDD 6-0 as I have 5 other HDD's installed.) and you need to select the HDD option and you should then find the folder, select this and then the BIOS update should be there.
Your USB key needs to be 2Gb or less and inserted before booting. It must also be formatted to FAT or FAT32.
Sorry this isn't exactly true as I have successfully flashed with 4 & 8 gig sticks.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the info absic115, I stand corrected on that point. I am sure that used to be the case though.
-
Yes, in the dark old days when we were all much younger! But then, computers were much easier back then too! :D
-
thanks for the replies.....When I extract mb_bios_ga-790xta-ud4_f3. should Icreate a file say for instance "biosF3" put these in a file then copy the file to the usb stick ? OR should I copy each one individually from the desktop to the uSB stick (usb stick is fat 32 )
Will I then aim the QFlash utility at the fie ,in this case "biosF3" or at one of the specific programmes in there i.e 79XTAUD4.F3 (1,024 KB) - autoexec (1KB) - FLASHSPI (26KB).
thanks...just don't want to get this wrong ;.)
JUSTto add when I copy the the 3 progarmmes to the USB stick all three appear there BUT if I close the USB stick then go back to it the autoexec (1KB) fiole appears to have disappeared YET if I try to copy it again onto the stick then it appears to be ther i.e it asks me if I want tocopyand replace the file Or to keep the original or to keep both...
What am I doooooing wrong ?++++
Thanks v.much

Hi,
Just copy the extrated folder (mb_bios_ga-790xta-ud4_f3) onto the USB stick (the 3 files still inside it).
In Qflash when you select the folder it will automatically find the correct file and it will ask if you want to update BIOS.
Once BIOS has updated press F10 to shutdown the PC. Reboot and enter BIOS again and load optimized defaults. Save the changes and reboot.

hello .... quote "Just copy the extrated folder (mb_bios_ga-790xta-ud4_f3) onto the USB stick (the 3 files still inside it)." Unquote.
so this is the file that is downloaded direct from the gigabyte website? There instructions indicate that this need to be extratcted ?
Quote
1. Download the latest BIOS for your motherboard from Gigabyte’s website.
2. Extract the BIOS file downloaded and save the BIOS file (the one with model
name.Fxx. For example, 7VRXP.F12) to a floppy disk. UNQUOTE

Sorry for being a bit thick
-
When you download the file it will be in a zip format which you will have to extract to be able to use it. Once extracted there should be three files as absic115 said.
-
Hi,
to extract the folders you will need to use either 7Zip, a free programme for extracting/compressing files. You can download it from here: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html or another programme such as WinRar, WinZip etc., but these cost (I tend to like free!)
Sorry for being a bit thick
Not an issue, we have all had to learn and it is better to ask than to do something wrong. ;)

Hello I have managed to update the Bios and manually set up the Dram settings.
The file that is D/L from the gigabyte website will unzip on its own ..that wasn't the problem ...the problem was that I didn't relise that QFlash would show my USB stick as a HDD AND that the autoexec (1KB) application WOULD NOT show up on the USB stick when I transferred it to the USB stick (although it was there somehow)
So thanks VERY MUCH for the help....I will see if it helps the two or three BSOD's I get per month (usually clso to each other )
The RAM is at 1600mhz and 1,8V I can still try upping these to 1,9V if I have still get the BSOD
THANKS AGAIN ;D ;D
