Title: Unknown Flash Type - EFIFLASH
Post by: zaltys on October 19, 2017, 01:38:40 pm
Hi,

I have a Gigabyte B250N Phoenix-WIFI motherboard. Just recently, BIOS versions F3 & F4 appeared in the downloads section on the Gigabyte website for this board.

I'm currently on F2 version.

Not matter what I do, I can't get the BIOS to update - Q-Flash & @BIOS both fail. "Not able to update BIOS file successfully"

So I tried Rufus, FreeDOS, and the EFIFLASH utility and it shows this:

GIGABYTE SPI Flash BIOS Update Utility v0.65

 Checking BIOS information....
 !!! Unknown Flash Type !!!

In the BIOS Q-Flash when it fails, it shows the flash type/size as: MXIC 25L/U Series 8MB

What gives?

Does Gigabyte need to release a new EFIFLASH that supports the BIOS flash type installed on my board?

Thanks.

Running 'Load Optimized Defaults' fixed it.

Pity the BIOS can't fix whatever setting that causes the problem itself.

Hello,

At least you managed to fix it and thanks for taking the time to report back with the solution.

Similar issue to this one.
