Title: Can use 2 memory sticks...4 is unstable (Corsair, 4gig vs 8gig)
Post by: zenthor on June 23, 2010, 06:03:20 pm
I have  Gigabyte EP45T-UD3LR With Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz.
Memory is Corsair XMS3 CMX$G#M@A1600c8 Ver 1.7
Windows 7
Bios is in Fail-Safe defaults.

I bought 4*2 gig chips (8 gig total). I can use any two of the 4 and system is stable. When I use all 4 chips (8 gig), I get Blue Screen within 5 minutes. It says 'memory management' plus a lot of gibberish i do not understand.
The memory is fine...that is, all of it works as long as I only use 2.
Can anyone think why it can not tolerate 4?
Thank you!

Some boards will only accept two sticks of double sided memory or four sticks of single sided memory at a time. I am unsure if yours comes into this category but it might give you a start.
Are you using the XMP setting in the BIOS when you are setting up the memory?

BTW I managed to crack your code for the modules: CMX4GX3M2A1600C8

The MB says it supports SS/DS in all slots. Will check the bios setting next.

If you still have problems try putting the meory to manual in the BIOS and entering the numbers on the side of the modules. You may have to up the voltage a little too on both the memory and northbridge.

Ok, the memory says 8.8.8 24 1.65V 1600MHz....the MB however has it at 9.9.9.24 1333 1.5V
First thing I tried was adjusting to 8.8.8.24 and profile1 (1600) and got the blue screen in about 4 minutes after Win started.
Then I tried the voltage. Closest options are 1.64 and 1.66....I selected 1.64
The system then could not get to the Starting Windows option. It would reboot over and over.
So...back to 4 gig for now. Very odd, I had the exact same problem with my previous system (Asus MB) and could only use 4 gig. I just dont understand. I will continue to research then return the board and get it replaced with one tested (by the store) with 8gig so I dont have this problem again.
