Hi guys. I've had some problem with my internet and have tried everything. After posting on a few forums, the most common answer I got was that there is probably something wrong with the network adapter on the board. I was wondering if anyone here had any thoughts? Below is what I originally posted in the other threads. Thanks for any help!!!
Hi guys! I'm having internet problems that I have tried to fix for two days now and just can't get anywhere with. I have tried everything I can think of and every forum I can find and nothing has helped. I'm hoping the experts at Tom's can help.
First a rundown of my system:
I have a Comcast Cable modem that is plugged into a Gigabit DIR-655 Router. From the Router, I have two, sometimes three, laptops connecting wireless and then my PS3 and computer connected by a wire. My computer is running legal Windows 7 with everything updated.
About two days ago, when I got home from work, my internet was down. Every once in a while this happens so I proceeded to restart my router. That didn't fix it and so I went from there and it just got worse. Here is a list of everything I've checked.
Reset/Restarted Router
Reset/Restarted Modem
Checked that I had the newest NIC driver and the newest firmware on router
Made sure that all the laptops and PS3 have connection (They do)
Tried to restart computer.
Tried booting into Ubuntu to see if I could get internet there (I CAN'T)
Tried uninstalling the Network adapter driver and reinstalling it
Tried pinging the NIC (270.0.0.1) It pings fine
I have tried plugging the ethernet wire that was going into my pc into my ps3 and one of the laptops (It connects both of them)
What happens when I first boot into Windows is that it says I don't have a network. The little diagram just shows the adapter going into internet. When I unplug the ethernet cord from the back of the computer and plug it right back in, then it shows a network but an unidentified public network.
I'm so confused by this because I've pretty much killed of the possiblity of a hardware problem but at the same time since it is happening in Ubuntu and Windows 7, it doesn't seem like it could be a software problem. Maybe it conveniently has a software problem with both? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have a ipconfig /all log yet since I'm at work. I'll try to post one this afternoon.

Right well given the time of year it is posssibly due to the heat. I don't know where your modem/router is situated but they often give up when they get too hot. Unplug leave to cool down or produce some shade if it's in a sunny spot. If still problems do a hard reset of both the router and modem.
Make sure the cable from the modem to the router is making a good connection. You don't say who is your service provider but check with them and get them to check your connection from their end.

My service provider is Comcast. Also, as I mentioned in my post, all the other wireless connections work and the wired connection to the PS 3 works too. It is only my computer.

Have you tried running the network configurator and using the troubleshoot problems option? In Device Manager is the network card showing as ok? Try going to the Network Adapter and then the Advanced tab and select Speed and Duplex and select 10Mbs Half Duplex and ok it. I cannot guarrantee that this will work but I used to get the similar problem and it was the only thing that used to fix it for me.

I have tried the network config and troubleshooter and it doesn't do anything. In the Device Manager, the adapter reads fine. Like I mentioned earlier, I've tried completely reinstalling the device driver and it still is messed up. I will try you other piece of advice when I get home. I haven't tried that.

These network connection problems can be a complete pain in the ass sometimes. I feel for you.

You can try this might not work its some odd problem with Realtek chips and power cuts.
Shut down upplug the power from the PSU press the power on the case to discharge the power and then plug it in again and power on.
