Title: GA-P55M-UD4 AHCI 300GB Velociraptor Compatability
Post by: slybunda on July 03, 2010, 01:24:56 am
hello all, i have a issue regarding the GA-P55M-UD4 (bios F9) motherboard with i5 750 cpu and 4gb corsair ram.
if i set the intel sata controller to AHCI mode then it just hangs on boot when detecting the devices on the ahci controller stage. hard drive in question is the 300GB westerndigital Velociraptor drive.

if i set it to IDE mode then the system boots up fine and i have windows installed etc.

if ahci mode is enabled and i disconnect the velociraptor drive and use my seagate 80gb drive the system will work fine with ahci mode. im guessing its something to do with compatability of this board/bios and this hard drive.

the velociraptor works fine in my ga-p35t-dq6 mobo with ahci mode enabled and works in various other p45 chipset mobos from other manufacturers in ahci mode fine.

anyone else have this issue?

never mind this thread, i checked few mins ago there was a new bios F10 for my motherboard out, iv installed it now and its picking up the drive properly with AHCI mode enabled. windows boots up fine and iv now installed the intel rapid storage driver.

Glad you managed to sort it out yourself. Usually the answer is there if only we can find it :)

ya i a happy bunny now. im trying out some overclocking on my i5 750 cpu. went with this mobo since it was a micro atx one for my antec p180mini. and im sticking to gigabyte since my last abit board has leaking capacitors, and my last asus board popped a capacitor.

need reliability these days so gonna stick to gigabytes offerings.

TYhe new capacitors are way ahead when it comes to reliability. No more leaking electrolyte when they pop. Even though they were replaceable you knew it was a problem just waiting to happen.
