On the bottom left of the board it will have "Rev:1.0" or similar printed on it. Near the PCI slots.

Thanks.
It could well be the PSU is going downhill fast. It would give the type of symptom that you are experiencing. The second thing that it could be is the memory. Try testing the RAM with Memtest86 just one stick at a time. Let it run for at least half a dozen loops.

the computer starts but when it reaches(http://newverhost.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/windows7_beta_boot_screen.png)  it restarts.

BTW i just hooked up a random hard drive from my friends computer

That is probably your problem. It most likely has an old setup of Windows on it that is conflicting with your present Windows installation. Remove the drive  and see if your problem disappears. Please post back and let me know.

You need more RAM. When you get more, format that drive and reload your OS and drivers and see how you go.

I think we need a little more information here. You have given your specs but not what you hvae been up to prior to the problem, a bit of history might be helpfull. Also what version of Windows are you trying to run? Is it a fresh installation? etc

You can only use a hard drive that is clean and formatted if it has come from another computer. So format the drive and then do a fresh install of Windows on it.

thanks...another thing...is my motherboard compatable with windows 7?

I am not sure but I notice that it's compatible with Vista so I think that it probably is. The only thing is you would want more than 1Gb of RAM to run it properly. If you go on the Micro$oft website there is a tool on there for checking system compatibility for Windows 7.

Depends on your system and your requirements apart from how much you want to spend. I would get a SATA2 drive, size depending on your budget.
